to raise money to benefit the community.

Charity Storage is a promotional outreach

program that depends on the support of the

self storage industry, the Self Storage

Association (Charity Storage is SSA’s charity

partner), and millions of North American self

storage tenants and neighboring

communities.

The Smile Train (www.smiletrain.org) is an

international children’s charity with a sustainable

approach to a single, solvable problem: cleft lip

and palate. Millions of children in developing

countries with unrepaired clefts live in shame,

but more importantly, have difficulty eating,

breathing and speaking. Cleft repair surgery is

simple, and the transformation is immediate.

Their sustainable model provides training and

funding to empower local doctors in 85+

developing countries to provide 100%-free cleft

repair surgery in their communities.

Train!

Instead of giving a speech at his SSA

(www.selfstorage.org) Hall of Fame Induction,

Barry Hoeven, the founder of Kure It and

cofounder of Charity Storage, raised over

$270,000 for the SSA Foundation. The SSA

Foundation Scholarship Program provides

scholarship awards of up to $5,000 toward

postsecondary education tuition and fees.

This is a need-based scholarship program for

students with at least a "C" cumulative average

or 2.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 point scale.

Recipients must be employees (or their

children/grandchildren) of companies which are

direct members of the Self Storage Association

(national). Eligibility requirements also include

a demonstration of integrity within school

and/or workplace and documented pursuit of

meaningful education at an accredited

postsecondary education institution.

In addition, as the only charity partner of the

SSA and together with our participating

facilities, the Charity Storage program has

raised $15,994 for SSAF educational

scholarships!

Kure It (www.kureit.org) is the recipient of 30%

of all funds raised though Charity Storage

auctions. Thus far, this collaboration has raised

$66,667 for underfunded cancers.

Kure It provides funding for innovative research

projects focused on kidney cancer and other

underfunded cancers. The funds raised through

Kure It directly support groundbreaking research

at leading cancer centers.

The idea to establish Kure It came after Barry

Hoeven was diagnosed with kidney cancer in

1998 while on a family vacation. Over the past

16 years, Barry and his family have been battling

this disease and raising money through Kure It,

reaching a recent milestone of $3 million!

storage industry into conformity and exceeds the

intent and practice of the state laws governing

the Self Storage Industry.

StorageTreasures allows Charity Storage

auctions on it’s platform without charging

customary fees! US Storage Facility in Laguna Niguel

(www.usstoragecenters.com) has been doing

successful Charity Storage (CS) auctions for

years. Julie and Tony take the time to collect

gently used and desirable items for the CS unit.

Once it’s full, they carefully stage it, take quality

photos and post the auction online at

StorageTreasures.com. The Laguna Niguel

facility has to date raised $7,702 for Kure It and

the Self Storage Association Foundation.
