Facing Change A few months back I saw an opening for a chaplain position in a rehab center in NE Wisconsin. The acreage was not sold but I felt the opportunity was one I’d like to explore so I sent in my application and resume. Shortly afterwards I got contacted from a Christian rehab center in Phoenix, AZ. I still don’t know how that all happened? I just assumed that someone knew someone or something? Well, why in the world would we go to Phoenix, AZ? Not really the mecca for ice fishing. I then got to thinking about the adventure we were starting. Will Janet and I shut down every-thing that didn’t fit into our desire? In other words, NE Wisconsin, lake country, house on one of those lakes, within an hour of the grandbabies, four 10 hour work days and weekends off. (OK, that might be a little much!) Maybe a better approach is to simply give it all to God and be open for whatever God desires for us to do? Maybe God has a better plan than I do? (You think?) Maybe this is one of those times when we will be thankful for unanswered prayer? I’m sure you all have been there too. So many times our desires get in the way of God’s plan. So, with this in mind we decided to simply put things out there and be open to whatever? Even look at possibilities that are completely different from our wish list. You as a congregation are on an adventure too. Just as much as I feel that God is leading change in our life, God is working change here. Hey, this is a great adventure. Trying to dis-cern the mind of God is something that requires humility and faith. It is a matter of trust and a willingness to accept what we may not like. I think there are a lot of changes that God is preparing us for at First Reformed, for staff, leaders, and congregation. Be open to this. As change is discussed and ideas are being explored don’t immediately close the doors. Be will-ing to be open to new possibilities and ideas. It is so easy to look at change and say, “We have never done that before!” “I have never thought about that one!” or “I won’t…..” Ulti-mately we need to rest in God and discern His will and plan. In the end, it might be some-thing that is completely different from what we were thinking or even desiring. The bottom line is this. This adventure has to be God’s doing and not ours. If we want the joy and purpose that God has for us then we need to allow God to be in control and not our want list. Now let me close with a very familiar verse. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Oh, was that verse sweet! Well, yes, but let’s understand that many absolutely distort the meaning of this passage. We are talking about an exiled people who want to go home. Their placement in life is not anything close to where they want it to be. They want God to give them his promise that their wish list will come true. Understand these people will not see that glorious day when God brings them home. God is simply saying to them, “You must learn to live in hope and purpose even when things are not going the way you desire.” This is not false hope that God will take away their sufferings and enable them to live happily ever after. Instead this is confidence that God will give a reason for hope in the midst of whatever life ultimately brings their way. Now, with this attitude let us all face change.

FRC in Transition
Pastor Steve & Janet announced a few weeks ago about their intentions to move to Wisconsin. (no specifics in regards to date at this present time). Pastor Steve’s article in FRC March Newsletter explains this more.
For anyone who has questions or concerns about this announcement and upcoming decisions during this transition, please contact Dave VanNieuwenhuyzen in person or by e-mail: [email protected]. Dave is FRC’s Vice President and will be glad to discuss with you your questions or concerns .
Soup & Pie Supper
Thank you to every-one who was in-
volved with this year’s Soup & Pie Supper. Ap-proximately 75 people either made soup, barbe-ques, pies, desserts, or volunteered for this event! That is a lot of people and shows how FRC’s family comes together for this annual event. This was the first year that Soup & Pie Supper was held in March. And even though we had to postpone it because of the inclement weather, the attendance was great as usual.
Proceeds from the Soup & Pie Supper came to $1,678. Decisions are still being made on the best way to use these funds.
Thank you again FRC family!

Thank you all our Christian friends for the cards, calls, prayers, blessings, and thinking of us on our 70th Anniversary. God is so good - full of mercy and grace. We have been really blessed.

We thank all those who prayed for us, who sent cards and texts, and personally encouraged us while I went through the lung cancer process. Thankfully a much less invasive procedure was done to get the cancer rather than the lobecto-my which we were told earlier was necessary. We thank God for the peace and love which he generously gave to us through the whole pro-cess. Wilmer & Marilyn Rensink
Glory House is extremely grateful for your part-nership in the Gospel, expressed through your generous donations under the “Glory Tree” for our clients children and Christmas Eve offering. On behalf of our clients and their families, thank you! Glory House

When you are clean-ing house this spring and find things that you no longer want or need, set them aside for a rummage sale to benefit CASAs (Homes of Hope).
The Brenneman’s plan to have a rummage sale again this year. They will take gently used items except clothing. All proceeds will go to CASAs.
Last year $1,200 was raised. Let’s see if we can beat that amount.
A date will be determined later, and the Brenneman’s will gather items about a week before the sale.

Fight Right
Again?
We have heard that there are couples who missed Fight Right and want to see it. Or that there are couples who heard how people en-joyed Fight Right and are interested in seeing it. Therefore, we are trying to determine if there is enough interest to show Fight Right again in the next couple of months.
Fight Right could be shown on either 2 Wednes-day evenings, 3 Sunday mornings, or 2 evenings-whichever works with the interested group.
If would like to see Fight Right, talk to or e-mail Lisa in the church office by April 9th at: [email protected]. We will also be putting a sign up for this on FRC’s website under the “Ministries” , “Adult” and “Adult Studies” tabs.
