The First Indians of Florida
In 1510 the Europeans arrived at in Florida and were saw the indigenous natives were
living on the Isles of La Florida, they were captured and enslaved by the Spanish who
very aggressive and violent. The Spanish name Florida their island and put the enslaved
Indians to look for gold and jewels. Some of the natives escaped and hide deep in the
swamp area, they left by canoes in found the border of Florida and Georgia so they made
their way north. Some continued to hide in the everglades of southern Georgia. The
captured slavesThe Spanish quickly captured and enslaved them and they ruthlessly
abused their families especially the Indian wome became ill due to infectious diseases
carried by the Europeans. The natives were apparently never exposed to such diseases
and their immune systems could not withstand the exposure, their bodies were covered
with sores, soon they began to die became ill and died The Spanish eventually returned
to Europe and came back with Jesuit priest to establish a colony in northern Florida near
the coast and St Augustine area. Later when the Spanish went to Georgia, Alabama, and
Mississippi to conquered the new area, they found even more Indians living near the
Chattahoochee , Flint rivers and all the way to the Carolinas. The Insians natives were
excellent hunters and hey begin trading with the Europeans. They natives were aware of
the Spanish aggressive ways and took to hiding in in other areas. d. Some of the natives
survived the epidemic because that had escaped being taken as slaves by the Spanish, that
is why some of the continued to lived in the area and some wandered northwards to live
in Georgia and Alabama. Eventually they will become large tribes that will live of or
many centuries. I began to research the story to find out what happened to the native
American Indians and look for supportive evidence that might tell the true story and life

I became interested in learning about the Seminole Indians Tribe when I spent time in
Florida and I traveled from Tampa Bay to Miami with my daughter in the beginning of
this year. I began to notice the names on maps and signs of towns and streets they were
named Indian leaders and Indian and tribes. Seminole 54th
year celebration of the
Seminole recognition and achievement day. The celebration was a performance of their
annual Green Corn Day cer emony(Weisman).

The performers were members of the
Seminole Tribe and other tribes that once belong to the political organization called the
Creek Confederacy. They were dress in traditional Seminole clothing. They reenacted
the orginal Green Corn dance celebration. It was a beautiful ceremony and they
performers were very proud and creative. The Green Corn dance enactment further grew
my interest in the Indian society, I saw not only a proud but dignitified people who had a
story to tell. They spok e in several languages as they relived the life of theirfathers
before. They
