As the second largest growth area in the world, Africa can look to the future with confidence. Its progress is not just about the economy. Life expectancy is increasing and infant mortality is decreasing faster than anywhere else. The largest concentration of young people of working age is also to be found there.

Africa’s long-term economic transformation must be accompanied, as of now, by the development of the human capital essential to seizing the opportunities available to the continent. This approach should take into account the diversity of our countries and the diversity of the various private and public sector players.

With the support of the African Development Bank, many countries are undertaking the necessary reforms in health, education and social protection to promote a more inclusive growth. There have been numerous inroads in health system expansion, innovative financing and partnerships with the private sector. Sharing knowledge about these experiences is crucial.

Decision makers, financiers and professionals, African and international, public and private sectors: for the first time, the AFRICA HEALTH FORUM brings together the most important players in the health sector. It provides them with a framework for discussion and sharing of experiences conducive to the implementation of ambitious and sustainable partnerships. I am sure we all will take advantage of this forum to put our heads together over the development of health as an economic sector in Africa.

Its mission is to bring together public and private players from across the continent and those of the rest of the world to help improve healthcare access and quality in Africa.

Covering the continent’s key economic problems, the AFRICA HEALTH FORUM will give prominence to on-the-ground solutions and practical applications.
