The following article is an original article written by Reg Revans 1979. He always typed everything himself on an old carriage-style typewriter. Eventually, in 1983 Reg published this article (with some additions) in the Management Decision journal, Volume 21, Issue 1. This published article is still available on the Emerald website if you want to order it. I am fortunate to have this original copy and wanted to share it with any- one viewing this website to show its original form and how Reg’s writ- ings always looked before going to press. I think it is his best explanation of action learning. When you read the article (you might want to read it more than once) you will see that he was ahead of his time in understanding and predicting future challenges and problems (we are right in the midst of them now). He always de- sired to help people understand the importance of asking questions for the purpose of learning from the reality of our existence (our actions) so that our reality could always be improving and getting better.
