Rev Paige’s Corner: Being NimbleIn church leadership conversations over the

last decade, it has been expressedemphatically that churches that thrive inthis new century need to be nimble. I thinkwhat is meant by this is able to respond tochanging situations, try new things and letgo of things that are no longer working, andable to make adjustments fairlyeasily. While we want to stay rooted in ourtraditions and grounded in a faith traditionthat is thousands of years old, at the same

time, we are aware that to go beyond surviving to thriving, the churchneeds to be responsive to the needs around us and to the movement ofthe Holy Spirit.

In 27 years of ministry, though, I have to confess that never have I feltsuch a need for being adaptive and nimble than the time we are livingthrough! We have made radical changes in how we are church togetherand week by week we keep on needing to adapt and adjust. As joyful aswe are to be able be partially re-opened, it requires of us a who new setof changes and adjustments. If there is now more than 1 person in thebuilding at a time, how are we distancing? Where are the masks in thebuilding? Who has access and who doesn’t?

Nowhere has this been more true than in our worshipexperience. From the technology end, Christian Ed Sunday went aboutas well as any services we have had since moving online. And I jokedwith staff, now we are going to change it all up again! Our new AV live-streaming equipment is in the building and we have spent a lot of timethis week working to get it set up and learning how to use it. If all goeswell, we will be using it for the first time on Sunday. (Be patient withus!) That will mean you will be able to hear the organ and the videoquality will be better. Ultimately, it will mean that we will be able tosimultaneously offer worship in-person and online. The constant change and adaption is getting tiring. And yet I think it isa good skill for us to have as a church. I believe it will make us moreeffective in bringing God’s love and grace into the world in ways thatare tangible to those who are struggling.

Blessings, Pastor Paige
