The Future of Communication Technology in 2023 A.D
BY: Colleen Hughes
Blast from the past• As we all can see, history and technology has
transformed society to be what it is today. With new innovations and advances, technology has taken over the world and made communication easier through a number of devices. This slideshow is not only going to talk about these devices, but will also answer these questions about the 2023’s future of communication technology:
• What will our phone’s be like?• What’s next for our televisions?• How will video games be different?
Old school (Telephone) vs.New School (Smartphone)
• It use to be you would have to write letters to those who didn’t live near you
in order to communicate. And a lot of the time it would take along time for
that message to get delivered. Then in 1870’s Alexander Graham Bell
invented the telephone which changed the world forever. Now people had an
easier way of talking to each other and transmitting their messages. It made
it convenient for people to be able to inform others faster than mail traveling
or going to tell them in person. As time went on cell phones were invented
which involved not having to stay in one place while talking to someone.
• Today, Smart phones have taken over the globe. They come with so many
features that you hardly see anyone with a wall built in telephone any more.
Although at the time period wall built in phones were something new and
wild to have, new technologies have taken over because of their advances
and all that they include. That goes along with just regular cell phones as
well. Smart phones just include so much more, and so they’ve started
disappearing as well.
What’s next For the telephone?
• Looking towards what the landscape for 2023
AD will be as far as communication through phone, I can see
a ton of possibilities.
• Smartphones will take on a whole new meaning in 2023. Not only will the
design look different but the features that comes with it will as well.
• I can see the smartphone transforming into a part of our everyday wear. It’s
already glued to our pocket, why not be an accessory like a watch or glasses.
• Something I read about on CNN. com was how smartphones could be using
3D graphics and Biometrics for it’s new features in the next ten years. So
instead of seeing just the casual web page pulled up on our browsers, we’ll
have special glasses or contacts we can wear to actually jump in to the
environment or atmosphere we are trying to search for on the web.
Uses and Gratifications Theory
• This theory is going to effect all of the technologies I’ve selected because the uses and gratifications theory explains why someone selects a certain technology that satisfies them.
• Without this theory it would be hard to determine what innovators should do next with technology. This theory is what makes them understand consumers and see what they personally do with their devices.
• This theory is very important when it comes to the future of these technologies just because it’s what designers can research to make their products better over time.
Memory Lane of Video Games
• Growing up, I got to experience some of the most radical and truly classic video games. From Sega Genesis to the Game Boy. I got to play it all. Although it was fun, and like nothing I had never seen before, boy has it changed and quite for the better I must say. With new innovations and technology the video game world has changed and expanded so much.
Below: Game Boy Transformation over the years. To the right classic games including Sonic, Mario, and Pac Man(Pictures Provided by Google images.)
Video Games in the future• I believe in the next ten years that video games a will take off in the consumer
industry. People will be able to get more physically involved and interact more with their teammates or opponents.
• An example will be like the Kinnect or Wii that already tries to develop the player. It will have personal information about the player making it that more realistic. Sort of having the background and also connecting that with the physical features of the player. Having their facial expressions and movements. It’ll make that much more fun, just as if your reality was in the game and you were actually in the game.
• In in article I read about the future of video gaming they
stated that, "Gamers will be able to create objects
holographically and sculpt things with our hands,
opening up fascinating new one-to-one interactions,”
said Hocking.
The Umbrella Perspective• The umbrella perspective is very important and will
effect all three of the technologies that I selected because it’s about the process in which each development is organized to make products better within a company.
• It’s a theory is about the understanding on how hardware equipment, organizational structures, and social values that individuals collect are processed and exchanged to other people.
• Some of the factors of the umbrella perspective is enabling, limiting, motivating, and inhibiting.
“Back to the Television” • Television has had a huge impact on society and how we communicate
with each other. Without television many situations and problems would never have been crossed. I feel like television changed the world in so many ways and gave people new opinions on how things work in our society.
• From newscasts to sitcoms and movies, television has brought so many new influences in peoples lives. People do things and are influenced in their decision making because of what they’ve seen on television.
• Television was used as a propaganda machine in the 1940s, then in the 1060s people were able to receive more news on their television then in their newspaper or radio, and as the 80s and 90s came around people were able to watch their favorite shows that radicalized people’s opinions on society. Their were couples sleeping in the same bed, women were looking very seductive and revealing. It gave people new opinions on how the world around them was. Television has continued to prove how influential it is and I can’t wait to see what new innovations it has next.
The Screen of the Future• What I think the landscape of television technology in 2023 will be a whole
bunch of different possibilities. See you already have so many new things
that the television today now features that it’s hard to say what else can you
add. Right now what’s trending is the 3d television and smart TV. Which are
both very important technology improved features being that in today’s
society those are things that’s most devices include.
• What I see is a television that can appear out of nowhere. Like in the earlier
slides when we were talking about smartphones and how they will be in
everyday accessories, well that’ll be the same for televisions. You can have
them on your watch or or even wear glasses that can project a screen on to
them to watch your favorite television shows. It’ll have great graphics and
the interaction experience that all new technologies are trying to include in
their features.
The Screen of the FutureIn an article by Scott Puopolo, he wrote about how
in the future he thinks that you’ll be able to watch television anywhere on any type of flat surface. He also included this picture of what it might appear to look like.
Diffusion of Innovations Theory
• This theory has effected and influenced all three of the technologies that I’ve selected because it discusses the breakdown of decision making.
• It has a five step process that includes knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation, and confirmation. Below decision making is the reject or accept part as well.
• This is a way that the members of a social system will go through in order to make proper decisions on technology and improvements.
The Future of 2013
As you can see the future has many possibilities with the devices and technology that we already have. And the best part about it is the best has yet to come. I can say this knowing it’s a fact from the
evidence of seeing what our past technology was and seeing how it has grown into what the world’s society relies on today. Communication technology
isn’t just a device or something useful, it’s a revolution that has taken over the world. Without it,
it’s hard to say what our world would look like today.
