THE FUTURE OF HIGH PERFORMANCE RACING

HIGH PERFORMANCE RACING ON YOUR TERMS

“High performance … sensible price”

- Seahorse Magazine

The C&C 30 one-design high performance race boat offers the thrill and technology of big-boat grand prix sailing in a size that’s fun, easy to sail and affordable. No other contemporary offshore capable race boat in this size range offers such proven grand prix features, sleek styling cues and ease of sailing at such a great value.

The C&C 30 combines a stiff, slippery-fast hull, a powerful sail plan, and ultra high-tech construction and materials, with an uber efficient deck layout inspired by the TP52 class. Plus, the boat is a featherweight flyer that’s tough enough to stand up to the rigors of middle-distance offshore racing, too. Much like walking into a Ferrari Dealership and laying your eyes on those gorgeous cars, upon seeing the New C&C 30 One Design, you will fall in love in an instant. The fun is just beginning.

C&C Yachts. We performance.

The next generation of C&C Yachts has arrived.

And they’re going to blow your doors off.

C&C Yachts, the iconic brand that helped shape the racing revolution in the glory days of the 20th century is pleased to

introduce two brand new high-performance race boats: the C&C 30 One Design and the C&C 41 Redline. But don’t be fooled. There’s nothing “retro” or “traditional” about these

Mark Mills-designed rockets.

They’re sexy, wickedly fast, and built to last by veteran race boat builders in BRISTOL, RHODE ISLAND to the highest

standards of integrity, performance, and craftsmanship.

[Mark] Mills’ record of success from boats like Soozal and Alegre will take the next step with the C&C 30”

The design brief highly respected performance boat designer Mark Mills was given at the start of the project couldn’t have been simpler, and paradoxically—more daunting.

Throw the rating rule books out the window and design a fast, stable, close-winded, easy-to-race one-design 30-footer that planes easily and will leave all other 30-foot performance keel boats in its wake.

He accomplished this difficult task with superior science and computer modeling, cutting edge construction techniques and materials, and by simply ignoring the accommodations requirements of the increasingly muddled field of “performance cruisers” available these days.

ADD LIGHTNESS

- Colin Chapman, Formula 1 Pioneer and Founder of Lotus Cars

Simplify, then add lightness”

The design philosophy of “adding lightness” made famous by the legendary Formula 1 pioneer and Lotus Cars Founder, Colin Chapman, was the guiding principle of The C&C 30 Team as well. Mills started with a hull shape he developed using advanced Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) research his recent racing designs like Alegre have exploited to clean up on the Mini-Maxi circuit.

The vacuum infused hull is strong, stiff, and most importantly, light, and the performance oriented chine keeps wetted surface down in light air, and significantly increases form stability as the breeze comes up. The carbon fiber keel fin allows the maximum weight possible to be placed in the torpedo shaped bulb where it provides the most stability. The carbon rig and removable, externally mounted, fixed bowsprit from Hall Spars strike the perfect balance between lightweight, strength, and reasonable cost.

Not just an around-the-buoys daysailer”

Why limit yourself? The C&C 30 is a dual-purpose raceboat that will kick up the same rooster tail on a short inshore course as it will on longer medium-distance offshore races like the Chicago-Mac, Block Island, Ensenada and Ontario 300. Unlike other sport boats in this size range, special attention has been paid to offshore safety, durability, and water tightness, making her tough enough to stand up to the rigors of point to point racing too. The C&C 30 is certified ISO Category A, which represents a major difference in her structural and sea keeping capability compared to other sportboats.

OFFSHORE THOROUGHBRED

“Jesse Fielding and I (Charlie Enright) helped design the deck layout for the C&C 30 by using our experience on a variety of different boats; everything from Mini-Maxis to Skiffs to other boats in the 30 foot range. It will be ergonomically easy and extremely efficient to use.”

You don’t have to be a rock star to sail like one

The light and fast hull has serious stability built into the deep, torpedo-bulb keel. The rig is powerful, manageable, and forgiving for an average race crew. And the elegantly simple controls on deck make it possible to tweak everything for maximum speed with minimal clutter. Plus, double-handed racers will love that any decent-sized auto pilot system can precisely control the powerful, yet easily driven hull.

Volvo Ocean Race skipper Charlie Enright helped design the deck layout for maximum efficiency. As a result the refined-yet-simple rig adjustment system eliminates the need for complicated and heavy hydraulics and additional ‘pros’ on board, while the spinnaker retrieval system makes quick and effortless sail changes possible without requiring any crew on the foredeck. She can truly be raced at the highest competitive levels with a crew ranging anywhere from five to seven people and minimal ‘pros’. In fact, she was designed for that exact purpose.

Affordable speed

Several elements of this design are specifically designed to control costs (strict one-design rules, efficient construction techniques, eliminating the weight and cost of non-essential details) but none of these may make more of an impact than the simple fact that you only need five crew to race this boat (but have the freedom to sail with as many as seven) to its absolute, excitement-inducing limit. Big sailing. Small Management. This is the C&C 30’s mantra.

High Performance Rule (HPR) race ready

Instant access to race with the best. The C&C 30 was not designed to any rule except for our own in-house rule that says: raw boatspeed matters. With that in mind, and the fact that The C&C Team has been a core Advisory Partner to re-define HPR racing incentives, the C&C 30 has been optimized to be competitive under the HPR.

BUILT IN Rhode Island, United States.

The C&C 30 is built right here in the United States (Bristol, RI) and is the brainchild of two boat builders who have a distinguished record of building some of the most successful one-designs over the past 25 years. Randy Borges and Barry Carroll and The C&C Yachts Team have built the iconic Mumm 30, Farr 40, and 1D35 and USWatercraft (C&C’s parent company) still builds new J-24’s and J-22’s.

These folks know one-designs and the go-fast experts at USWatercraft’s race-bottom shop, Waterline Systems, will ensure that every boat comes out of the shop with precisely faired keels, rudders, and bottoms that are fast, uniform, and class approved. Getting the foils right, and every hull up to the same exacting One Design standards from the beginning raises the bar and is yet another feature that sets the C&C 30 apart.

Take your boat where the race is. With ease. The retractable keel and removable composite sprit makes this boat an obvious choice for easy trailering and docking.

The C&C 30 is designed to be as easy to get ready for the road as it is fun to sail.

Interior

To minimize speed-stealing weight, interior components mostly provide structure rather than furniture. Two settee berths are standard along with a chemical toilet with deck pump out, and if overnight racing is in the plans, two optional pipe berths, a single burner Origo stove with non-pressurized alcohol and composite sink can also be installed. A head with holding tank (and a curtain for privacy!) is also an available option, making that twilight harbor cruise for two a more comfortable affair. Drink holders aren’t standard, but given the C&C 30’s race winning potential, a champagne bucket is probably more appropriate anyway!

DESIGNER NOTES

“The C&C 30 is an exciting opportunity for us to take a fresh look at what a modern high performance One Design can offer, and do so with some of the best performance

experts in the business, including KND Sailing Performance, a company based in Spain who we partner with on our Grand Prix racing projects like our recent Mini-Maxi Alegre. Their unique features include a specialty in CFD and VPP performance prediction, as well as performance analysis of logged data, for classes such as the TP52 fleet, Volvo 65’s, and the Mini-Maxis.

“Starting with the certainty that the new design would need to be light with lots of sail area for exhilarating performance, what would be necessary to reinvent the type in 2014? Listening to owners and dealers it became clear that previous sport boat generations now require too many crew, and too many professional crew, to sail to their potential. Professional numbers were easy to take care of with

a well-written One Design rule put together by C&C 30 builder and One Design supremo Barry Carroll who stewarded the Mumm 30 and Farr 40 classes to worldwide success.

“Addressing crew numbers was another issue, which required some thought to reduce without leaving the boat overpowered in a breeze under its sizable sail plan. Our solution is to combine the lowest VCG possible with features such as the carbon fin with a hull shape that has a slim waterline beam at rest like a conventional sportsboat, for low wetted surface area and drag. In light airs the C&C 30 should be sailed fairly upright, and with the crew weight forwards as usual to maintain that low drag configuration. As the wind increases her wider hull shape above the waterline begins to immerse with increasing heel angle, adding significant amounts of form stability and using more of the sail plan’s power, allowing the crew to shift aft to further increase stability. This stability from the hull form allows the C&C 30 class to limit crew numbers and allows teams to focus on sailing and having fun instead of finding and managing large crews. It even encourages shorthanded sailing in the right events.”
