His Excellency the Vice-President of India Shri M.Venkaiah Naiduvisited Gandhigram Rural Institute on 10th October, 2018 as Chief Guestfor 34th Convocation. In this Convocation, 1298 students receive theirdegrees and diplomas: Ph.D - 127 M.Phil - 105 Post Graduate and

Two students are honoured, one student for the participation in Republic Day Parade and another student for achievement in 3rd South Asian Roll Ball Championship and won Gold Medal.

Two Honoris Causa awards for two respected women, Dr.R.Kousalya Devi and Smt. Krishnammal Jagannathan who have dedicated their whole life for the welfare and upliftment of rural populace

Damages due to Cyclone (Gaja) on 16.11.2018 at Gandhigram RuralInstitute and corrective measures undertaken by the authorities

Corrective Measures taken by the Authorities of the Institute
All Low Tension side has been opened at 10.30 am to avoid neutral leakage
All Generator Services, even though it has been connected via UG cable hasbeen shutdown at 10.30 am for safety reasons
At 12.15 pm after physical inspection of sites, all generators were switched onand power was applied to all connected Departments including Ladies Hostel
TANGEDCO has been reported immediately. Photographs of all damagedsystem has been shared via 'Whatsapp„
Inspection of AE to the site and preliminary discussion has been made at03.00 pm and accordingly decided that
- TANGEDCO take necessary steps to get HT line to Transformers
- GRI will take steps to clear the fallen trees which have damaged the poles
2 Temporary Generators have been hired to energize the Boys hostel with theRate Contractor. At 06.00 pm the Boys hostel (all Blocks) has been givensupply through Generator.
At 10.00 pm, TANGEDCO got clearance for HT side inside the GRI campus

One tank and Eight farm ponds which weredug two years back at the strategic pointsfew harvesting rain water filled with rainwater and thereby entire rain water washarvested within the campus.
