tos Joint Force Training Base. This will be the 5th

One of our busiest members, and our highest

ranking, Jim McDonnell- LASD Sheriff (Lifetime &

Charter member) along with his wife Kathleen,

were the first to reserve seats for our 2017 dinner.

He is sincere in his support of this organization

and has always found the time and desire to be

there for us.

member Bill Murphy (LAPD

Deputy Chief) held his retire-

ment where his LAPD career

began, the LAPD Academy.

LAPES members in attendance included Scott

Walton, Rick Boyle, Father Frank Hicks, Tommy

Kirk and myself. Rick Boyle and I presented Bill

with a one of a kind Murphy-LAPES flag. We also

presented LAPES shirts to Bill’s wife and daugh-

ters. Father Hicks did the invocation.

Like his fellow Bostonian, Jim McDonnell, Bill has

always gone above and beyond for this organiza-

tion. They have always stepped up when asked,

and we owe them both a great debt of gratitude.

It was a great send off for a great cop and an even

better Irishman. Enjoy Bill, you earned it the old

fashion way. We see Red Sox and Boston Bruins

games in your future.

I was an invited guest of the Honorable Steve

Cooley, former L A County District Attorney, at the

Sons of St. Patrick’s yearly fundraising dinner.

Jim McDonnell was also in attendance. The or-

ganization is one of the oldest Irish organizations

in the Southern California area. It does great hu-

manitarian work on behalf its membership. Martin

Sheen was this year’s member of the year. Past

members of the year have included Tip O’Neil,

Lou Holtz, Tommy Lasorda, Daryl Gates, Steve

Cooley and Jim McDonnell.

Charter member Rick Boyle (LAPD/

Trooper Thorn) shed his locks again

this year on behalf of the St. Bal-

drick’s Foundation. The St. Bal-

drick’s Foundation is a volunteer-

powered charity committed to find-

ing cures for childhood cancers. After having his

head shaved, Rick, along with his Trooper Thorn

band mates, and our fellow LAPES members,

Chris Pierce, Rory Aitken and Rob Williams do-

nated their time and musical skills preforming for

the crowd. No, Chris Pierce (AKA Animal) did not

shave his head. Emerald Society Members Griffin

Healy, John Joe Lyons, Jimmy Fox, and I attend-

ed the St. Baldrick’s Foundation event held annu-

ally at the Harp in Costa Mesa. The owner of the

Harp is LAPES member John Joe Lyons.

Corporate/Lifetime member Ciaran Gallagher or-

ganized a blood & bone marrow drive for little

Ashlynn Parish March 31 at Gallagher’s L B. This

was in coordination with Long Beach Memorial

Children’s Hospital. LAPES members participat-

ing included Ciaran, Erin

Edmonds, Patrick O’Don-

nell, and Tom Keleher. It

was a great turn out by the

community.

LAPES member Chrissy Geck-

Orcholski donated her time & musi-

cal skills in honoring Fountain Valley

PD Officer Rick Nilos at a fundraiser

that was held at the Blarney Stone

in Fountain Valley. The Blarney

Stone is now owned by L A County Fire Fighter

Emerald Society member David Bauman. The

Hooligans Band was the night’s entertainment,
