Exalted Rulers Message
This is my last ER letter. I want to thank all of you who helped make this a good year! The Lodge presented 24 awards last night to some very deserving people. Without these dedicated and loyal volunteers our Lodge would not have had a successful year. We came close to achieving a plus 1 membership goal. We started the year with .513 members, had 36 that chose not to renew their membership, we had 39 new members and we had 17 members who passed away. We will miss all of them. Please give our new ER, Pat McCaffery all the help that you gave me. Pat will be a great leader for Findlay Lodge #75. As of April 1st, if you bring in a NEW!! Pool/Tennis Family or Couple Membership, you will receive a $50.00 Cash reward!!! Scheduling is underway for the events this summer at the pool and Tiki Hut. There will be events like last year-cookouts, bands, DJ's, Kids days etc. Again Thank You, Jim
Hi, I'm Pat the incoming Exalted Ruler. For those of you that don't know me
I've been the soccer guy for the past decade, was treasurer for 3 years and
went through the chairs over the following three years. I will try to be at
the lodge in the evenings when I'm in town. My job has me out of town a
lot, and I do like being employed so bear with me if I'm slow to answer.
My email is always at my hip and you can reach me through our new
website. The Lodge is healthy since we moved to the Northridge
complex. Prior to the move we had been losing $30,000 per year in
downtown building and we are breaking even now. There are three basic
reasons for this positive direction: 1) the utilities are much lower, 2) we have
transitioned to more volunteer workers, and 3) Our caterer, Special Occa-
sions, is better at food service than we are.
There are three basic things I will be concentrating during my term. The
first is the physical expansion of the lodge. The club room and lounge are
much too small for our needs which leads to conflicts between the groups
that use them. We do have a significant balance leftover from the sale of
the downtown building and the purchase of the Northridge complex. We do
need to break ground before August to prevent a heavy tax burden. To build
our dream lodge some fund raising is needed and there is a significant
effort under underway for a capital campaign. If someone asks you for a
donation please give what you can.
The second is to educate the members on how the lodge works, which
Includes what it means to be an Elk. I will spend a little time in the monthly
letter in the Gazelk to explain how each piece works and fits together. Our
Lodge is part of a national organization that is a social and charitable
fraternity. We have some constraints put on us by national, but we also
have great opportunities available to us from national. The Findlay Lodge
itself has many parts. The Lodge is our ruling body, and we meet the 2nd
and 4th Thursday's of the month in the banquet hall. The Home Association
maintains the physical facilities and is also the owner of all our real
property. The House Committee governs how the lodge facilities are utilized
by the members and their guests. The banquet hall is run as a concession
by our caterer. The Pool and tennis club is also a concession open to the
public and run as an independent company under the House Committee.
Third and last, our different activities under the lodge have been a little
fractured and independent of the lodge. Some of this has been due to lack
of communication. Our efforts at Facebook, email chains, and a new website
have helped. The monthly Gazelk letter will expand those efforts. Also I
will be appointing committee heads for billiards, poker, euchre and tennis
to report out on their activities at the lodge meetings. Please remember,
we are elks first and our lodge has lots of pieces. Fitting them all
together requires us to go beyond just paying our dues. Consider chipping-in
in a way that may be out of your comfort zone. One of the more negative
things I've heard over the years is "It's someone else's job to get it
done". This applies to standard stuff and those great ideas that people
toss out. Our lodge is staffed primarily by volunteers, and a very few,
very underpaid staff. This is extremely demoralizing to those people when
they receive this type of criticism. Consider chipping-in and possibly
leading those ideas for the betterment of the lodge.
Fraternal yours
Pat

A brand new Lodge year is upon us. If you want to get the weekly emails of what
is coming up and what is going on in our Lodge, or you know someone who
wants to get the emails, please send me an email to [email protected] so I
can add you to the email list.
Your dues statement was mailed many weeks ago, please let me know if you
haven’t received yours. Please pay your dues promptly, as dues income is the
single most important source of revenue we have. The Lodge thanks you very
much for supporting the great things we do in the community. Dues are $128 for
the full year and $64 for half of the Lodge year. Life members pay $68 per year.
You may write a check to BPOE 75 and mail it to PO Box 208 Findlay 45839-
0208. You may drop your dues off at the Lodge. I have a box in the lounge on the
chest freezer. You can visit www.findlaybpoe75.org and pay your dues and the
other charitable things ONLINE! Of course cash is good as always.
Don’t forget to buy your Ohio Elks Association (OEA) calendars in the lounge.
The cost is $20 and the Lodge keeps $5 and the other $15 goes to the OEA. Some
of the money will help pay for youth scholarships, scouting projects and many
other very worthwhile charities. The best part is that you can with from $50 to
$500. The calendars will have a four digit number on them. This will be tied to
the Ohio Lottery’s pick 4 game which is done twice daily. If your number is
drawn, you win. You don’t have to keep track of anything because the money is
automatically sent to your house. It’s a great way to benevolent and you have 730
chances to win. Findlay Lodge 75 has had THREE WINNERS last year! They
make GREAT presents for friends or family.
During the meeting of March 10th the applications of Phil Roeder (proposed by
Krissy Bartel) was read in the Lodge. The reinstatement of Jeff Pugh was
approved as was the affiliation of William Moden III via transfer dimit from
Napolean Lodge 929. During the meeting of March 24thth the Lodge approved the
membership of Phil Roeder. Being an Elk has made a positive contribution to
your life. Now it is time to pay it forward and help out someone else improve
their life by becoming an Elk.
We remember our absent members who passed away during the last Lodge year.
They include Robert McKinney, Lester Roller, James Speck, Gilbert Newton,
Frederick Hunter, Robert Niswander, Norman Strathman, Donald Caldwell,
Wayne Stanfield, Carl Moses, Carl Collins, Clair Karcher, Dean Reichley, Mike
Risser, John Blide, Vance Kramer and Paul Streacker. Their faults lie upon the
sand but their virtues are written on the tablets of love and memory.
It pays to come to Lodge! On March 10thth Scott Garlock was a loser of $25
because he was not at Lodge. On the meeting on the 24th Don Bauman was a
loser of $30 because he was not in Lodge. Come to Lodge so you can win. The
Lodge meetings in April are on the 14th and the 28th. Students of the year will be
before the meeting on the 14th.
See you at the Lodge
