Principal’s report
Principal’s report
I am so proud of our wonderful school. We have an
active SRC putting together a range of activities, an
inspiring Hands on Learning team who are
restoring the benches around the school and
participating in the community, our committed
students and teachers who continue to strive for
excellence in learning and providing opportunities
such as hosting zone carnivals and theatre
excursions and our parents who so readily engage
with the school. Enjoy this edition with more good
news stories from across the school.
Staffing news
I offer my congratulations and gratitude to Rhonda
on her impressive career at Barellan Central School
and wish her the very best in her retirement.
Rhonda started with us in 1990, so it is poetic that
she celebrates her retirement after 30 years’
service at Barellan Central. Best wishes Rhonda.
We know we will still see you up at school working
when we need the extra hand, so it isn’t really good
bye.
I’m pleased to inform the community that we have
finalised the merit selection process for the English
teacher position and the successful candidate has
accepted the positon. Once we have the final
approvals through staffing, I will announce who the
successful candidate is.
School building improvements
Work has commenced on the poultry operation
with the slab being currently prepared with a flurry
of activity anticipated with electricians and
plumbers setting up the building. The slab will be
poured early next week and then left to cure for 4
weeks, depending on the weather. We are
optimistic that by the beginning of next term we
will be able to open up the poultry operation.
We have recently completed the final renovations
to the Learning and Wellbeing Centre, with a new
office and storage space, and new furniture for
senior students.
Depending on the weather, our electronic sign should
be installed over the weekend. The initial work has
been completed and we look forward to being able to
better communicate and celebrate our school
through the sign over the coming weeks.
Widgiewa class
The Widgiewa class is now up and running with our
new teacher Emily Bethe. They have moved into the
old music room and we have plans in the pipeline to
install a kitchenette, and to convert the storeroom
into a study room.
P&C meeting
Thank you to the P&C for your ongoing support of the
school. I encourage you to all attend P&C meetings. It
is a very useful way to engage in discussion about the
future of the school, and to play a role in shaping the
conversation together with me.
At the last P&C meeting, among other matters, we
discussed the future introduction of a companion dog
at school and the P&C got to meet her. Both the
school and the P&C were supportive of having a
companion dog at school. You will hear more in the
next gazette about how this is progressing.
Extended leave
I will commence extended leave until the end of the
term at the end of next week. I am very much looking
forward to spending the time away in Spain with my
family, even though I will miss Barellan Central School
in my absence. The relieving principal will be
announced on Tuesday morning.
I wish you the very best for the rest of the term and
to continuing to hear of the magnificent stories from
BCS.
Best wishes, Paul Laing Principal
