1 The Gazette Last year, we talked about how the number or rides, miles and gallons of gas Rover utilized in the previous year. This year we thought we’d provide some of the same information, but also go a little more in depth. 2014 was a big year for Rover, as we completed over 356,000 rides, with a monthly average of approx. 29,700 rides per month. Obviously, the largest portion of these rides are through our Senior Shared-Ride program, which is nearly 42% of our total rides for the year. Of that 42%, 66% of them were classified as Essential Trips (Rides to the Grocery Store, Pharmacy, Medical, Senior Centers, or to visit a Nursing Home) . 27% were Non- Essential rides and 9% were rides to the Philadelphia International Airport, which fall under the Senior Shared-Ride program but are facilitated by Rainbow Cab. Individuals who ride through our Medical Assistance Transportation Program were roughly 19% of our total trips, with 29% being through contracted services and 10% coming through our Persons with Disabilities program. Now, there has to be something to performing all of these trips, and it’s what keeps our buses running. In 2014, Rover used nearly 295,000 gallons of gasoline, nearly 24,500 gallons a month. All of those gallons let us travel approx. 2.36 million miles a year. That mileage means that we could travel around the Earth 588 times a year! It’s always a lot of fun for us to put together theses number to share with you what kind of rides we operate, how many there are and how much gas it takes to travel there. The Gazette

Last year, we talked about how the number or rides, miles and gallons of gas Rover utilized in the previous year.

Of that 42%, 66% of them were classified as Essential Trips (Rides to the Grocery Store, Pharmacy, Medical, Senior Centers, or to visit a

Nursing Home) . 27% were Non-Essential rides and 9% were rides to the Philadelphia International Airport, which fall under the Senior Shared-Ride program but are

facilitated by Rainbow Cab.

Individuals who ride through our Medical Assistance Transportation Program were roughly 19% of our total trips, with 29% being through

contracted services and 10% coming through our Persons with Disabilities program.

Now, there has to be something to performing all of these trips, and

it’s what keeps our buses running. In 2014, Rover used nearly 295,000 gallons of gasoline, nearly 24,500 gallons a month. All of those gallons let us travel approx. 2.36 million miles a year. That mileage means that we could travel around the Earth 588 times a year!

It’s always a lot of fun for us to put together theses number to

share with you what kind of rides we operate, how many there are and how much gas it takes to travel there.

The story of: Apollo 13Many in the younger generation remember Apollo 13 as the 1995 Ron Howard directed movie starring Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise and Ed Harris. The film, based on the true story of what was supposed to be the third lunar landing mission was both a critical and commercial success, but many may not remember all of the details of the events that happened 45 years ago this month.

Following a 49 minute television program showing the level of comfort the crew lived and worked in aboard Odyssey, where Flight Commander James Lovell stated “This is the crew of Apollo 13 wishing everybody there a nice evening, and we’re just about ready to close out our inspection of Aquarius and get back for a pleasant evening in Odyssey. Good night.” Nine minutes later, a sharp bang was heard and Lovell stated “Houston, we've had a problem here”. Oxygen tank No. 2 had blown up, causing tank No. 1 to fail as well. The normal supply of electricity, light and water was lost, and the astronauts were 200,000 miles from Earth.

In the days to follow, a multitude of other difficulties involving the vessel’s oxygen and filtration of Carbon Dioxide occurred. When it came to the difficulties with the vessel’s electrical systems, Astronaut Ken Mattingly, who had to be removed from the mission after being exposed to German Measles just days before, was heavily involved in assisting the crew solve the problem of their power conservation that they needed for re-entry to Earth.

After all of the difficulties with their flight, Apollo 13 was able to not only re-enter Earth’s orbit but successfully land in the Pacific Ocean on April 17th, 1970.
