ARTS Meets 4th Thursday at 10:00 am Contacts: Beverly Long or Normandy Cooper

Our department hosted the February and March patron events for the Music Association, and have logged almost 70 service hours and earned $250 in tips! In February we visited the Bay Historical Society and learned

more about our local history. In March, we met at the historic St. An-drews Publishing Museum and Visitors Center. Center Director Ryan Ledford explained what printing the Museum still does and described their processes.

We have several project groups working on fundraising and fun efforts. TOTES: Several designs were demonstrated by Jessica Guidroz at the last project core group meeting. Plans were made for completing the totes in time to sell at Ways & Means table at Lynn Haven’s Spring Fever Mar-ket on April 1. We are also working with Nancy Wyatt of the Conserva-

tion Dept., who will be selling aprons hand-made by club members. COOKBOOK: The Cookbook project core group is planning the format, style, volume and marketing methods for our new cookbook to be online-produced and printed on-demand with recipes from club members, their friends and families. CROCHET CRAFTS: Normandy Cooper and the Knitters, Hookers, and a Cook group have made stuffed teddy bears, as well as crocheted glasses holders. All project sales will benefit our Club.

EDUCATION Meets 4th Tuesday at 11:30 am Contact: Allison Mizell

CONSERVATION Meets 3rd Thursday at 11:30 AM Contact: Pat Fenaes

We will be delivering vegetable seeds in pots to share with the Health Department’s community garden. The ferns we planted around the bare spots here at the Clubhouse to minimize erosion and make the grounds look better are thriving! Spring clean up will continue with bench cleaning and heavy bed mulching to prevent weeds. OUR WEED-BEATING SECRET: lots of newspapers, black cover cloth and thick top layer of mulch.

Nancy Wyatt has put together a gardener’s gift wagon for an April opportunity drawing at the next luncheon. We will also support Ways & Means’ April 1 Spring Fever Market sales with aprons and more. If you have green thumbs or not, join us for lunch at Po Folks.

Our department has focused its efforts this year on tutoring 3-4 afternoons a week at Girls Inc. and encouraging reading by having children sign the We Pledge to Read.

Kay Hicks recently enthralled a group of young children with a good story. As our year winds down, we can say with pride that our members have made a real difference in our community this year!

HEALTH & WELFARE Meets 4th Wednesday at 10:00 am Contact: Paula Bunch

At our March business meeting, we will firm up our plans for a “shower” for local domestic violence pro-grams at the GFWC District 2 meeting here at the end of April, pending Board approval. Our Fundraiser Hat

project has been well received. For April, we will devise an Easter Bonnet with lottery tickets on it. Plans are well underway for the May 20 Domestic Violence fundraiser, held annually at the Springfield Community Center. We will sponsor two tables at this event and welcome the Youth Department’s participation. Everyone is welcomed at this event.

INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH Meets 4th Thursday at 9:30 am Contact: Betty Bowen or Charmian Cretney

In April, Mary Davenport will report on Half The Sky: Turning Oppression Into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, “...a passionate call to arms against our era’s most pervasive human rights violation: the oppression of women and girls in the developing world, meeting wom-en in Asia and Africa who have overcome extreme situations.” Mary is a great story teller herself. In May, we will end the year with a Luncheon, so we will make plans for that as well.

WAYS & MEANS is Spring-ing into Action!

We have several “fun fundraisers” ahead! On Saturday, April 1, W&M will sell arts and crafts made by our members of the Arts and Conservation departments at the Spring Fever Market in Lynn Haven at Roberts Hall from 9am-3pm. Come shop! We are collecting your unwanted gold for the Solid Gold Fundraiser at the April and May luncheons. Tickets for the Mystery Dinner Theater on May 5-6 are on sale now for $20. A spring yard sale was proposed for May 13 but we have now rented the Clubhouse. Normandy Cooper agreed to make labels for “Women Make a Change” jars, a project to allow club members to collect their spare change in a designated place and turn them in to their directors when it is filled. Jars and labels will be provided. Look for them at the next Luncheon. Help support our Club and our good works!

YOUTH Meets 3rd Thursday at 6:00 pm Contact: Jane Rigby

At our March meeting, Kelly Forehand and Terri Gainer from After School Assistance Program (ASAP) updat-ed us on their new building fundraising progress. We intend to give them a letter of intent to support this worthwhile project. We will also support Public Issues’ First Responders luncheon in April with desserts and woman-power for set up and clean up. We will support the Domestic Violence fundraiser in May with Health & Welfare. Our April meeting will focus on the finishing touches on the menu and decorations for the May General Membership luncheon.

PUBLIC ISSUES Meets 3rd Tuesday at 11:30 am NO MEETING THIS MONTH

Contact: Darcie Brooks

We hosted our Spring Bunco Party on March 14. The Clubhouse was decorated in hot pink and black. Jane Groom’s hot chicken salad, marinated mixed vegetables, fruit and jello salads, and garlic bread were served buffet style. We gave out 21 door prizes along with prizes awarded for the most wins, the most losses (even losers win at Bunco!), and the most Buncos. A bejeweled purse with $100 sure made the rounds! There was lots of laughter and screams of “Bunco” all evening long. Our department was screaming with glee at the $1200 we made after expenses! Thanks are due to all members who supported this event. It was a great feel-ing to have had every department represented. We also gave out our membership applications that night. Having fun is an excellent membership recruitment tool!

We will not meet this month as our next event is the big First Respond-ers’ Child Abuse Prevention Awareness luncheon on April 3, immediately followed by this month’s General Membership Luncheon! Please show your support for our first responders and agencies that work so hard to combat child abuse. Your help before, during and after is appreciated!
