‧ Technology : ORing's PoE Ethernet switches not only provide PSE ports as power source but also provide two enhanced features: auto alive checking and power scheduling. The feature of alive checking is that: ORing's PoE switch will send an alive check packet automatically to check the response from connected PoE PD devices. If the PoE PD devices fail, ORing's PoE switches will send the alarm automatically. In the next, ORing's PoE switches will either reboot the devices' power or shut down the devices by your setting. Further, the users of ORing's PoE could schedule when exactly to power on the devices by the feature of power scheduling.

Redundant Ring Technology

The failure of data transmission is the nightmare for all of the end users doing industrial applications, i.e., factory automation, intelligent transportation, surveillance, etc. An accidental data loss might cause a non-retrieved loss in the application. Hence, the recovery time of disconnection is critical in industrial network.

Many Ethernet protocols, e.g., STP, RSTP, MSTP, etc., are defined by IEEE (Institute for Electrical & Electronics Engineers) to recovery the disconnections. However, the recovery time is much more critical for industrial applications than for commercial applications. Hence, vendors of industrial networking devices usually develop their own proprietary redundant ring technologies. ORing is not exceptional and develops its own enhanced redundant ring technologies, O-Ring, O-RSTP, Open-Ring, and μ-Ring.

》O-Ring :

O-Ring is ORing’s proprietary redundant ring technology, which could make the recovery time is less than 10 milliseconds within maximally 250 units. The O-Ring redundant ring technology can protect your mission-critical applications from network interruptions or temporary malfunctions by its fast recovery technology.

》O-RSTP :

O-Ring could minimize the recovery time less than 10 ms. However, this kinds of proprietary ring technologies usually only supports simple topology, and might not meet all end users’ requests. Thus, ORing develops another redundant ring technology, O-RSTP, to support complex topologies to be applied in various applications, but the recovery time is also less than 10 ms.

O-RSTP is an enhanced RSTP that supports applications with complex

topology. Different from IEEE 802.1w, RSTP, O-RSTP provides fast recovery which allows more nodes to operate in a single ring. The two main advantages of O-RSTP over RSTP are:

(1) O-RSTP improves the performance of recovery time, which is less than 10 ms. (2) O-RSTP could be applied to complex topologies as the same as RSTP, but supporting more nodes in a single topology.

》μ-Ring :

The before mentioned redundant ring technologies are all software-based technologies. However, ORing develops a brand new hardware/ASIC–based redundant ring technology. This exclusive and world first innovation brings the redundant ring technology into a new generation.

The μ-Ring is the world’s fastest redundant Ethernet ring technology. The recovery time of μ-Ring technology is less than 1 ms for over 500 units, even in gigabit Ethernet environment. This amazing innovation is based on the globally exclusive ASIC-based redundant ring technology. That is the reason why the recovery time is less than 1 ms with almost zero package loss while any node in the network accidentally fails.

ORing switches provide ASIC base ORing turbo engine which can provide amazing sub millisecond recovery time. ORing turbo engine uses ASIC signal to detect any topology change event occurring and automatically activate backup path less than 1 millisecond. μ-RING solves the biggest issue, the recovery time in gigabit environment, in industrial networking marketing. The hardware/ASIC-based redundant ring technology could make the recovery time less than 1 ms. But the software-based proprietary ring technologies usually could make the recovery time of gigabit connection is usually about or more than 150 ms.

The ORing turbo engine will reduce CPU utilization and activate the backup path using a hardware signal. The μ-Ring can achieve almost zero-loss networking running forever for very critical applications, like motion detection, surveillance, etc.

》Open-Ring :

Now, ORing prompts a new concept, OPEN ARCHITECTURE, to set the end users of industrial networking market free from such restriction. In order to achieve this, ORing develops an incredible redundant proprietary ring technology, Open-Ring, to allow the end users using different switches from ORing and the other vendors’ in the same environment. In this way, the end users have the opportunity to extend the environment by using different vendor’s switches.

Open-Ring is an enhanced redundancy technology which can make ORing’s switches compatible with any redundant proprietary ring technologies from any other vendors. According to this, the end users could join ORing’s switches with the other vendors’ switches to be a single ring. Through Open-Vision/Open-Vision Pro powerful management utility, end users can set all devices in one step.
