A Publication of Hermitage United Methodist Church Mission of the Church: “To glorify God and make disciples of Jesus Christ”
THE GOOD NEWS

Pastor Allen Black Recipient of the Harry Denman
Evangelism Award
Please join us in congratulating Pastor
Allen for receiving the Harry Denman
Evangelism Award at a special awards
banquet held by the Tennessee
Annual Conference. The Harry
Denman Evangelism Award honors a
United Methodist clergy in each
annual conference who has exhibited
outstanding efforts in Wesleyan
evangelism by faithfully carrying out
the mission of "making disciples of
Jesus Christ."
Honorees of this prestigious award practice the Great Commission and help people
experience the transforming love of God through Jesus Christ. What is most important
are the persons whose lives have been changed by the life and ministry of the recipient
of the Harry Denman Evangelism Award.
In the past, the honoree was surprised by the announcement during Annual
Conference; however, in order to stream line the Conference and fully recognize the
significance of this and other honors, an awards banquet was created this year.
Fortunately, Allen and Marjorie's family and friends were on hand to celebrate this
accomplishment on Sunday, June 9. Pastor Allen and other award recipients were
recognized during the Annual Conference on Tuesday, June 11, which was held at
Brentwood United Methodist Church.
Congratulations, Pastor Allen!!! Your church family is very proud of you!!!
Family and friends attend the awards banquet with Pastor Allen
Named for the late Dr. Harry Denman, distinguished lay evangelist, whom Dr. Billy Graham called "my mentor in Evangelism." The award is made possible by
The Foundation for Evangelism, which was founded in 1949 by Dr. Denman, who
felt it was the business of every Christian to be an evangelist. It is most fitting
that this award honors persons who carry on the spirit of Harry Denman.
On-Line Community
As you know, we had a church directory produced last year. An additional benefit of working with LifeTouch is that we can create an on-line community through our website. More information will be provided in the near future on this secure means of keeping our contact information up to date and available to our church family.
We have an upcoming opportunity for those of you that didn’t have your portrait made last year. LifeTouch will be at the Andrew Jackson Campus on Tuesday, June 25 for you to have your picture taken. Your family will receive a free 8x10 picture just for participating. This will also allow your family's picture to be included in our on-line community.
Please call the church office (883-3918) to make your portrait appointment by Friday, June 21 at 2:00pm.
Mini-Methodists
Mini-Methodists will meet this coming
Thursday, June 20 from 9:00 a.m. until noon.
We will gather in Room 120. We will be
making a treat for our McKendree friends and
walk over to the dining area to sing our VBS
songs. We always have a blast and we hope
you will join us!
This group is for children ages
kindergarten through……youth! If you have a
child younger than kindergarten and want to
bring them, come on and stay and help us!

Project Transformation Tennessee (PTT)
We will be involved again in providing reading partners in this fabulous program. If you have forgotten about what PTT involves, go to their website: www.projecttransformation.org. Their mission is to engage young adults in purposeful leadership and ministry, support underserved children and families, and connect churches to communities in need. Our very own Madison Weber is an intern this summer at the Tulip St. UMC site. We are excited for her as she works with children and shares her gifts and most of all, her love with them! HUMC will be providing reading volunteers the week of June 24 – 27, which is Monday through Thursday at the Tulip Street United Methodist site from 9:00am through noon. You may go and help read with a child one day or all four days! Our VBS collected hundreds of books again to take to them for their libraries and to give to the children at the sites to take home. Would you give a morning to go and read to some precious children who struggle with reading? Call the church office at 883-3918, ext. 102 and let Carolyn know if you’re available. We need 15 volunteers each day. You will need to provide your own transportation, but we can carpool together when we know who’s going. This is our second year to be involved in this amazing, life-changing program for underserved children in the Nashville area. Please prayerfully consider to be a part of this special week.

A Message from Mrs. Rita ~ Highlights from “Kingdom Rock”
Children’s singing, laughter, and learning were evident at our 2013 Vacation Bible School! We praise God for the 230 volunteers and 420 children who gathered each day June 10 – 14 to celebrate together and learn how to STAND STRONG for God! Parents reported every day that their children were singing and singing the songs at home! Keep on singing! A week like this cannot happen without the hundreds of hands who help to make it possible. Whether you folded a magazine strip or made gallons of lemonade, your gifts of time and talent were greatly appreciated! The spirit of cooperation was felt each day as we gathered. The youth and many, many more of you were even arriving an hour before we began to make sure your area was “ready to rock” for the children. That’s commitment and giving your best! We had more first time volunteers this year than ever! Each and every area had plenty of adults and youth there and the children were safe and happy and LOVED! Thanks for sharing your love with the children! It was deeply felt! May we continue to stand strong for God!
