The Good News of
Second Baptist Church
Grace and peace to you all in the Name of Jesus , our Savior and Lord. The Scripture says of Him, “He is seated at the right hand of the Father ever making intercession for us”. Sitting, some say is a picture of His redeeming work having been completed! Yes, the Father was pleased with the offering for sin which the Lord Jesus offered, His Blood. Remember, the Hebrew writer said, “without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin. The sin debt is paid, thanks be to the everlasting Son of God, Jesus. As I write, I am reminded of man’s need for the Redeemer. The Redeemer gave His blood to pay the penalty of sin. Romans 6:23 says, “the wages of sin is death”. The sinless, Jesus, became sin for us (me) that I would have life through Him. I need to be reminded that the Redeemer came to deliver us (me) from the power of sin. Sin has no power or dominion over the believer any more. All temptation is not removed, but the tempter (satan) has no power to make people carry out his will any longer. The final aspect of the Redeemers work is to remove us (me) from the presence of sin. This comes either at the Rapture/Resurrection or at death. What a Day that will be-no more sickness, tears, death, or sin! The Hymn writer asked the question “Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing Power?”. Why not make this the first day of the rest of your life! Trust Jesus…..

Sunshine Senior’s News
Living by Son-Light
Some of our days seem very dark. Sickness, the death of a loved one, the loss of a job or another struggle overshadows life. In our despair, it can be difficult to sense God’s presence. If God were here, we reason, surely he’d be shining his light on our dark circumstances. When life is bright and joyous, it’s easy to sense God; the sun becomes a natural metaphor for God’s Son, Jesus, the Light of the world. But even on cloudy days, the sun still shines, its presence not bound by our limited vision. And in the darkest night, the sun remains; the warmth it gave before dusk lingers, enough to preserve us into the dawning of a new day. Sometimes we even catch its reflection in the moon. “Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning” (Psalm 30:5b, NRSV). Trust in God; even in life’s dark
times, the Son still shines!

Pillars of the faith
Because Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses, or thoughts, to a church door in Wittenberg, Germany,
on October 31, 1517, many Christians remember that day and the major changes, or Reformation,
that resulted. Luther's theses contained three main pillars, which have stood for almost 500 years:
1. Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone) - The Bible is the sole authority in matters of faith, life and
conduct. "All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and
for training in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:16, NRSV).
2. Sola Fide (Faith Alone) - Christians are justified, or declared righteous, only through believing in
Jesus Christ as Savior. Although morality and good works are important, they alone cannot lead to
salvation. "A person is justified not by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ"
(Galatians 2:16, NRSV).
3. Sola Gratia (Grace Alone) - Grace is God's unmerited, or undeserved, favor. Salvation is a free gift
from our gracious God. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own
doing; it is the gift of God - not the result of works, so that no one may boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9, NRSV).
