ROMANS 5:12-14• Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the

world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

• Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

ROMANS 5:15-16

• But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.

But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

HISTORICITY OF ADAM

• If Adam is a mythological character created by ignorant man to help man explain the origin of humanity, then everything that Paul explains in this chapter is pointless.

• Moreover, the Christian is left without an explanation for origin of sin and death and without hope toward a solution.

Before we charge God with fault, let’s all remember if we had been Adam we too would

have sinned. There isn’t anyone who would

have resisted the temptation to be like God.

– All are born with a propensity to sin that comes from a depravity that we are born with because of our lineage to Adam.

• #1 There is NO cure for death.

• #2 Children do NOT have to be taught to be arrogant, disobedient, and deceitful.

• #3 Every attempt to create a perfect environment where evil doesn’t prevail has failed.

SINLESS SOCIETIES HAVE FAILED

• Communal Living in All Forms– Socialism/Communism– Cults in Private Communities and Islands– Monasteries– Religious Communities

MAN’S HEART IS BENT ON SIN

• Jeremiah 17:9 – The heart is deceitful above all things, and

desperately wicked: who can know it?

• The humanists hates the biblical worldview, BUT the biblical worldview is painfully accurate.

PSALM 58:3

• The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.

Some suggest that it was not right of God to pass a sin nature onto all

such that they are born guilty of Adam’s sin.

Yet God’s action in this case, set the conditions to do the opposite through the Second Adam.
