Greetings and welcome to the April issue of the Gospel Messenger Magazine. The response we have re-ceived from last month’s Inaugural Issue has been over-whelming. The papers have flown off the shelves and product tables far faster than we imagined.

This month, on the cover, you will find New Har-vest. This female trio from London, KY is catching ears and winning fans all over the country. Their Southern Gospel artistry with a Country flair is being heard on ra-dio and from stages.

We are tickled to bring you regional concert news, including the announcement for the Gospel Messenger Convention, which will be held in August in Greeneville, TN. Also, be on the lookout for exciting news items from many AOK Promotion and Production artists.

This month’s church of the month is a reflection on the church of my youth.

Next month be on the lookout for Georgia’s, Bread of Life Singers. We look forward to hearing from our readers.

Feel free to contact me at any time at (423)388-5459.

New Harvest “Dry Bones”

Formed in the year 2011, with the intent to spread the gospel through song, New Harvest is a Country/Southern Gospel Singing Group. With a stated mission to do the will of God, to win and influence as many souls as possible into his kingdom, and uplift those who need encouraged in the Lord, the group is taking the Christian music industry by storm.

Fresh off their successful radio single, “Your Baby,” the group is in the studio working on a new album while shipping to radio the incredible offering, “Dry Bones.” Kindra Cole writes much of the group’s material. Adam Knight of AOK Promotions states, “I truly believe 10 years from now, along with the top writers in the industry, Kin-dra’s name will be at the forefront. Her writing is already there. As people discover her lyrics, there is nowhere to go but up, from here.” Based out of London, KY this all female trio consists of, group founder, Kindra Lee Cole, Zona Deaton, and Paula Gibson Bowling. Unique in today’s Christian industry, New Harvest travels with live instrument stag-ing, featuring a 5 piece band. The group transcends de-nominational boundaries, with various members attend-ing Baptist, Pentecostal, and Non-denominational houses of worship when not on the road. Another rarity in the Christian music world, New Harvest maintains strong and active memberships within the churches where they are members.

The group has shared their music on the stage of Gospel Music Fan Fare, as well as over the broadcast waves of television stations transmitting the Gospel to the Southeastern part of the US, and streaming world-wide. New Harvest’s music has proven to be a mainstay of

the listening preference among those who enjoy internet radio, including an ongoing reign at the top of the region-al chart from Reverbnation. With their rising success, it is important to note that they have never forgotten to use their talents for the good of not only soul-winning, but also fundraising. The group has played an integral role in many benefit events for worthy causes.

Home Sweet Church Written By: Adam Knight, Editor

Nestled deep within the Appalachian foothills sits the Horse Creek Community of Greene County, Tennessee. Settled by German farmers in the late 1700’s, the picturesque vale serves as the setting for many of my most precious childhood memories. Amongst the fertile fields of tobacco and various types of peppers, one finds the small, white sided country church, Greene Ridge. When accessing my most sacred memories, and most life changing events, the combination of environment and loved ones there floods my soul with nostalgic warmth. The ringing of the up-right piano as Sister Donna pounded out those melodies, written on the harp of heaven, first played by the brush of angel’s wings. Sister Mavis, who to this day is the only person I can stand hearing play the organ, served as the able accompanist. The high tenor voice of Brother Clark would announce the selection from the red back Church Hymnal, the sound of rustling pages would ensue, just before some familiar hymn of praise was lifted to the Lord. It is quite doubtful that many, if any, of the choir members could read the shaped notes on the page, but years of wor-ship had left each one well aware of their respective parts. Ne’er did the leather lunged grannies fail to impress as they led out a chorus of “I’ve Never Been Sorry”. Not to be outdone, the aged gentlemen dug deep to find the gusto needed to hit every note of “Just A Little Talk With Jesus”. Once the choir had thrilled our souls, the booming voice of Deacon Buford Fox would take prayer requests. The lessons learned by those of my generation during altar time have served us well. First of all, the discovery that nothing was too great that our Lord would be intimidated. Likewise, nothing was so petty that He was not interested. Supplication would be made for those with cancer, lost loved ones, and broken hearts. The events of the time, the Cold War, date setting the return of Christ, scandals by prominent tel-evangelists, and perceived moral decay, were discussed and brought before the Lord. Another valuable lesson learned, was to seriously separate fact from fiction. I will never forget a burdened hearted, sincere saint seeking the church’s prayers for Bobby and Pam as they went through their divorce. Not wanting to seem insensitive, there were customary “amens” and “bless them Lords” offered. It soon became apparent that the ill-fated objects of this plea were the television characters played by Patrick Duffy and Victoria Principal on a popular television drama. The cacophony of voices at the altar of prayer, as these needs were made known to the Lord, is as fresh in my memory as the last song that fell on my ears. Each one speaking to the God of the universe, in their own way. There were those who employed swell-

ing words, worthy of a Wadsworth work. Others, in their simple country verbage, talked to God like a family friend. The Hensley and Hampton families were descendants of the charter members of Greene Ridge. Most Sunday mornings found them behind the sacred desk, with their well-worn, homemade songbook, compiled from hymnody and popular Southern Gospel artists. No matter their initial offering, before they sat, a request would be made for a standard favorite. Rarely a ser-vice passed without three generations of their clan singing the lively “Little David.”Once the final chord had been struck, my Uncle Lynn would take his rightful place at the dais. As he announced the text from his black, leather bound, King James Bible, the anticipation would reach its veritable climax. His unique approach to preaching could bring to life each biblical character, landscape, and custom. A vivid recol-lection, from my childhood, reminds me of the temptation of Christ in the Wilderness by Satan. It was not uncommon for me to sit with shuttered eyes as his simple, but powerful words fell on the rapt ears and impressionable heart of my youth. Not all of the lasting impressions were as holy as the preced-ing. My mind’s eye still sees that winged imp of Satan, the infamous wasp which threatened the ministry of the man of God. One Sum-mer Sunday evening, as it ominously buzzed just above the pulpit, the unsympathetic congregation watched their shepherd discontin-ue a sermon. The message, straight from glory’s portals was put on hold until a brave deacon sent the wasp to meet its maker. Each service would end with the pianist’s soft offering of a hymn of attrition. The plea would be made for lost souls to make the decision to accept the vicarious sacrifice of Jesus. An invitation would be extended to the straying believer, whose prodigal ways could end if they would return to the fold of the devout. Heartbroken parents, betrayed spouses, worried providers, ailing parishioners would line the altar to find peace. At that country house of worship, my parents invited Christ into their hearts. There I met the lover of my soul, as salvation became real to me. It was at Greene Ridge I found my passion for music, sang my first song, and plucked my first chord on a guitar. There is no other location on this beautiful planet, which changed the course of my life and destiny.

WEEPING PROPHETS NEEDED

By: Adam Knight

When reading through the canon of scripture, the book I typically get mired down in is the book of Jeremi-ah. Known as the weeping prophet, Jeremiah penned one of the most depressing accounts in scripture. He was called to a specific time with a series of bleak warnings for God’s people.

After a lot of reflection, I be-lieve that the reason the book both-ers me so much, is that it has great relevance to our ministry today. For instance, take the 4 purposes of the book and apply them to our day:

1. To warn of impending judg-ment.

Why we would be remiss, as minis-ters of the Gospel if we did not warn of the wrath of God to come. We must decry the works that elicit the temporal, chastising wrath of the complacent believers, as well as the ultimate wrath upon unbelievers, in the last day.

2. To exhort to repentance and obedience of God’s Word.

What greater purpose do we serve than to explain that God’s Word has a solid, constant ethic, to which we are called? Also, to encourage others that repentance is necessary and possible.

3. To precipitate judgment by confronting the response to the warn-ings and pleadings for repentance.

For those who will not hear, we are to continue warning. We are also to pray for temporal judgments, which might draw them to the message of repentance, rather than being at peace with their continued rebuffing of the Word of God.

4. To predict, warn and histori-cally record God’s judgments against those who will not repent.

We should be in tune with what is going on around us. Some tragedies and calamites are the result of the fall. Others are in direct response to disobedience. We need to call each situation as the Word of God does. What an Old Testament hero! Oh for more men who will weep tears of bitter sorrow for those who are on the path to destruction and loss due to idolatry and disobedience.

1 Corinthians 15:3-4 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: You may not realize it, but the devil has what I call “imita-tion Christians,” people who are actually members of cults but are camouflaged so as to appear as true Christians. The devil knows how Christians should look, so he dresses up his servants so that they appear as saints of God. These cultists are heretical on many doctrines, but their most dangerous, harmful error regards salvation. Their problem is not that they do not preach the gospel when they go door to door. They do preach the gospel. The problem is that they preach the WRONG gospel. You see, the word “gospel” simply means “good news.” The most well-known Christian cult preaches good news, but the good news that they preach is about a coming kingdom of Christ on the earth. Now, it is true that Christ will someday establish a rule of righteousness and peace on the earth. The Bible teaches that. How-ever, THAT good news will not save a sinner from his sins and from hell. That cult preaches the WRONG good news for salvation! Another well-known cult has young men who claim to be ministers of the gospel. However, THEIR good news is that Christ visited the American Indians and that He gave additional revelation besides the Bible on some golden plates. That gospel is FALSE, and even if it WERE true,

and it isn’t, it certainly won’t save a sinner from his sins. Some of these people are very sincere. Some of them are very dedicated to their cause. Neither sincerity nor sacrifice is the problem. Here is the problem. They are preaching a gospel message that is not the gospel of the grace of God. The consequences of

preaching the wrong gos-pel are serious: Galatians 1:8-9 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. That is solemn sounding, isn’t it? The gospel that Paul preached, and the gospel by which a person is saved, is defined in 1 Cor. 15:1-4. It is the message that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scrip-tures. Christ paid for our sins with His blood on the cross! Gal. 1:8-9 tells us to let any man be accursed, who preaches any other gospel than that one. Have you believed the right gospel? Are you telling to others the right gospel?

April Artist Spotlight1) Many of our readers have not been familiar with you MAR-TYR, up to this point. What can you tell them about who you are as a person, that will provide an insight to who you are as an artist?

I am a genuine individual who looks out for the benefit of others. My wife likes to say that she has to keep an eye on me because I will give my last dime, not giving thought that we may need that dime in the near future. I have flaws and indiscretions just like the next man. I am a sinner just like the next man, but I am a sinner saved by Grace. I am a husband and a father who simply just wants to please God. That which is in my heart, is poured out through my music. That which poured out, is strictly what God has to say about His creation.

2) What inspirations do you draw from greatly?

My response may seem cliché, but my inspiration comes direct-ly from the Holy Spirit and the ongoing real situations that I see around me. God is constantly giving me concepts and I have to hear Him clearly before I put that pen to the pad. If not, I simply will not write anything.

3) Many of our readers are not greatly familiar with Christian Rap or Hip Hop. What would you say to those who might not understand that, whether the music is a piano, a guitar, or beats, the main thing is that the lyric uplifts Christ?

Music within itself is not evil or good. It’s the content or lyrics with-in the music that makes it morally good or bad in God’s eyes. God created music for us to praise Him with it, not to do what we want with it, regardless of whether it is singing or rapping. I personally do not sample other artist’s music. All of my beats are made from scratch. When asked is it alright to use other people’s beats, my question to them is, who influenced the creation of the beat. Was it God’s influence or not. That is key. Many people have to feel the beat first, before they like a song, but the most important content is the lyrics. That is what speaks volumes, whether negative or posi-tive. My content is always Christ-centered. Teaching God’s theology through rap is vital to me.

4) So you have a new single out with VECA RECORDS/ NEW HEAVEN RECORDS out of Tampa, FL. Tell us about the song?

Yes, the song is called Determined. Wow, Determined came from a very personal place and it was at a rough time in my life where I just wanted to quit serving God. I was going through so much within myself. As I was walking to an appointment one day, God just started pouring it in so much that I was freestyling it. It was so potent though, that I started immediately texting myself the lyrics and before I knew it the song was done in basically an hour. Relating to the song, God had to remind me that He knows I’m imperfect, but that His Grace is sufficient. He further went on to remind me of how determined Christ was to live and die for us. How much pain He endured and so that was a big motivator for me to continue. He illuminated what real determination is.

5) Thanks Brother for taking time to answer our questions. Please leave our readers with some final thoughts about the vision and burden for your ministry.

Absolutely, I appreciate the opportunity. The vision that God has given me, derives from the Great Commission. Matthew 28: 18-20. It’s not just music for me, but ministry overall. The gift or talent of rap that He gave me, puts me in position to utilize the gift of teaching and evangelism. With that comes blood, sweat, tears and sacrifice of time, in which I will gladly yield because Christ did it for me first. Make sure y’all go and support the ministry by going to get the new debut album, self-titled Martyr. You can go get it from www.Godmanmusic.com. Also, the single Determined is also on the radios around the United States. Remember, if it’s not Christ, it’s nothing.

A Ministry of Joy By: Dustin Huffman

A Ministry of Joy In a society where many cannot say they were blessed to have a great father, anyone who knew Greg Huffman knows that it was a special privilege to call him dad. I have many memories of him as a coach, or Pastor, or just my best friend that make me smile when I think of them, and have genuine gratitude.

However, few are quite as vivid and taught me quite as much as one that happened amidst the waves of Florida’s beaches. When most people picture a Pastor they think of a stuffy old fellow in a suit that is always serious and is far above any tom foolery. That was not my Dad. While he was what many still call the definition of a great pastor, he was not above just having a good time. This was never more evident than riding the waves on vacation. He would do so for hours on end and squeeze every drop of laughter out of each moment.

On one such day, we spotted a man who was slowly making his way out to us. We hadn't the foggiest idea what he wanted but it was obvious he wanted something. He finally meandered out to us and quickly we found out his query. He looked at my father with a grin and said “Sir, you are a Christian aren't you?” My dad a little surprised, said “Yes sir, I am!” The man kind of chuckled and said “I could tell by the smile on your face!”

Folks, we live in a day when depression and misery rule. In 1992, the CDC estimated there were around 10 million cases of depression in the US. Some 22 years later, in 2014, that number was nearly 29 million. People are looking for happiness in any place they can find it, whether it be in drugs, alcohol, promiscuity, or some other source of temporary reprieve from daily life. If there was a ever a day we needed to show the world the difference between happiness and joy it is now. Donald Grey Barnhouse said “Joy is the flag over the castle, telling the world that the KING is in residence today!”

What made Greg Huffman different wasn't his profound theological knowledge, although he had that. It wasn't even his phenomenal ability as a man of God to break down scripture. It was the infectious joy in his heart that only comes from a healthy rela-tionship with the Lord. Next month, God willing we will look at the scriptural basics of how to attain a joy that shows a lost and dying world that The King is in residence within us! Thankfully, it's as simple as the smile on our face!

Can we do ALL things through Christ?

By Angel Knight How often do we hear Philippians 4:13. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” quoted? The question is, can we really do all things through Christ? The first response to that question will most often be, yes. I mean the verse says so, right? I want you to think about the word ‘all’ here and I am going to say no not always. When the apostle Paul wrote this He was speaking about the things he faced on his journey to be a witness of Christ and establish church-es. He had experienced living in comfort and harsh times, what it was like to be full and hungry. He said in Phil. 4:11 he had learned to be content in whatever state he found him-self, and he had the strength through Christ to do what he had been ordained to do. God has a divine will and purpose for everyone He saves. When we desire His strength and blessings to accomplish something we need to stop for a moment and see if what we desire is what He de

sires for us. If we walk accord-ing to what we want and desire He is not going to bless us. He knows where we will be the best use in glorifying Him and witnessing to the lost. There-fore, He will only strengthen us when we are walking in His will and His word. He will not strengthen someone who is walking contrary to what is written in scripture. God’s desire is that all would come to Him. He knows what will make you happy and He loves bless-ing His children. We just have to be in a state to receive those blessings. Christ IS strength to those who love and serve Him. Are you walking in accord with Jesus so that He can strengthen you? Or, is the strength you seek from Him meant to fuel something of your own desire?

AOK Radio play is still the greatest medium for introducing the music of a Southern Gospel artist. We take a very different approach to radio. We love the charts, and will throw a party if you have a smash hit song. BUT that isn’t our goal. Our goal is AIRPLAY! Only via airplay and folks hearing your music does your bookings and album sales increase. Only via the hearing of your music do souls respond and are encouraged and/or led to the Lord. Also, we approach everything from a booking standpoint. Once we get your music playing, we utilize the data we receive to work to book you from our database. Our current booking database has over 2,300 venues.
