Biographical background
Around 65-70 AD First gospel written. Synoptic Audience were Gentile Christians being
persecuted. Christians in Syria Christians in Palestine Christians during the first Revolt against Rome These groups were hated BOTH by Jews and
Romans.
Background
Based on Peter’s testimony. Because of the audience, the gospel focuses
on remaining faithful to Jesus. Emphasizes that Jesus himself suffered
Mark says his followers must undergo suffering in order to gain eternal life.

Healing and Compassion
Death came because religious leaders were
threatened. All humans, not just the Jews, are responsible
for his death. Resurrection proves his divinity and is the
greatest part of Salvation History.
