The Mission is to preserve The Governor’s Residence at the Boettcher Mansion, bring it into full use and

enjoyment for Colorado residents.

“”

The Governor’s Residence at the Boettcher Mansion serves to engage multi-generations in the ideals and responsi-bilities of power, politics, leadership, citizenship, commitment and service. The Residence offers for regularly scheduled com-munity programs, special events and tours free-of-charge. Non-profit organizations, government offices, corporations and individuals are required to pay a small private party fee for use of the Residence or Carriage House.

Brief History “Built in 1908, this house has served as home to Colorado’s sitting Governor and family since 1959. The 2006 renovation of the original Carriage House, and additions of the Tebo Visitors Center and Viki and Jack Thompson Gardens, have brought this stately home to a new level of beauty and service to the people of Colorado.”-(A) “Walter Scott Cheesman rode an ox cart from Chicago to Denver in 1861. He became an enthusiastic and effective booster of his new city, helping bring railroad service to Denver, developing the town’s fledgling real estate industry and rising to local and regional prominence.”-(B)

Walter Scott Cheesman married his wife, Alice Foster Sanger. Two years later their daughter, Gladys, was born and from the moment he saw her, Walter Cheesman was devoted to her. While still a teenager, Gladys helped her father design a wonderful new house for the family. But in 1907, just as he was planning to begin construction of the landmark mansion atop Denver’s Logan Hill, Mr. Cheesman died. Gladys and her mother proceeded with the plans, and the result was a graceful, soaring home of three stories that soon became the envy of Denver high society.“Mrs. Cheesman died in 1923 and the house was sold to Claude K. Boettcher, a leading western businessman. Mr. Boettcher presented the deed to his wife Edna as a Valentine’s Day present in 1924. Claude Boettcher died in 1957, his wife Edna the following year.”- (B) She left the house to a private family foundation, requesting that this beautiful mansion be offered to the State of Colorado to be used as a governors’ residence. But in the closing days of 1959, Governor Stephen McNichols gratefully accepted the mansion on behalf of the state.Today, The Colorado Governor’s Residence began as a landmark private home, was transformed into a display of old-world elegance and remains one of the west’s true treasure houses as it approaches its second century.

Logo Identity

6

Problem:The Governor’s Residence at the Boettcher Mansion needs a new identity logo. The existing logo is difficult to read with the present scripted typeface. The client would like to elegantly incorporate chandelier design alongside a new legible and easy to recognize logo.

Solution:Within the hierarchy of the logo, “The Governor’s Residences” should be the primary focus. “Governor’s Residence” has been under-lined because it creates balance for the logo and puts a strong emphasizes on the “Governor’s Residence.” Because the old logo did not have a strong or legible typescript, the font has been to Adobe Caslon Pro serif (regular). This font is simple, tasteful and very legible.

The second hierarchy is “at The Boettcher Mansion.” The existing scripted font was illegible and has been replaced with a Century Gothic script in capital letters. Because Century Gothic is a san serif typeface, it creates a strong contrast with the Adobe Caslon Pro serif font used the “Governor’s Residence.”

The contrast created by using two typefaces creates a well-balanced logo design. The client wanted the logo to have a strong emphasis on the existing chandelier and establish this image as the logo identity. The low opacity chandelier combined with the varying typefaces creates a strong and well-balanced logo identity.
