Youth & Children’s Ministries

Registration for the 2018/2019 school year is ongoing. For registration information, call Susan at 706-499-1224 or email [email protected] Susan Weidner Director, CFUMCP “Rooted in faith, growing in love”

Thank you so much to all who volunteered and prayed for our VBS program last month! It was a huge success as we had 50 children from our church and the community participate! I am so thankful for the opportunity to work with not only a wonderful group of children but also an amazing group of volunteers and church members! Thank you to everyone for all you did! Enjoy the following pictures from our week of VBS!

Our events for July are a trip to the Chestatee Zoo and Wildlife Preserve! You must reserve a spot for your child to attend. 8:45am-1:00pm, pick up and drop off at The Connection building. $5 per person and please bring your own lunch/drink. Space is still available! Contact Carly to reserve a spot or if you have any ques-tions. We will also have a “back to school bash” on July 28th!

Our youth ministry has had a busy summer already! We have been having lunches each Monday, taken a trip to a trampoline park in Gainesville, helped with VBS and had a number of fundraisers! We are most excited, however, for our mission trip the week of July 8th! We will be serving in Jacksonville, Florida and can’t wait to get back and share with the church all about our week! Thank you so much for your support of this trip through prayer and our fundraisers! We are looking forward to an amazing experience!

SERVE We lend a hand in our community!

Stephen Ministers: Ste-

phen Ministry is grounded in Jesus’

command to love one another.

Through one-on-one caring and con-

fidential relationships, those who are hurting re-

ceive the love, care, and support they need. Month-

ly, Stephen Ministers gather with their Stephen

Leaders for supervision and continuing education.

Our Stephen Ministers are trained caregivers, ready

to listen, to encourage, to pray, and to help you

through difficult times. For more information, to

volunteer, or for a confidential referral to a Stephen

Minister, please contact the Church Office.

Food 2 Kids: Our UMC Connection-

al Group mission project is Food 2

Kids, which provides weekend food

for 196 students during the school

year. The annual cost for this pro-

gram is approx. $55,000. We thank

you for your continued, steady support all

through the year as we build up funds to sustain

this ministry. The cost to sponsor one child is

$275. Any donation amount is appreciated! Did

you know? You can donate 1-pound jars of pea-

nut butter year-round in the boxes located on

campus - Food 2 Kids gets $ credit per pound

with the Food Bank!

The Mission

Team: This is one of

many Clarkesville Method-

ist local outreach ministries.

Participation is open to all,

church membership is not

required, and all tools as well as training are pro-

vided. Building a ramp with the Mission Team

provides quality time with good folks, a sense of

accomplishment, and an opportunity to serve

Christ. If you would like to help with an upcom-

ing project contact Jerry Medlock, 706-768-

3111, or Dave McClure, 706-776-8439.

Meals On Wheels: We share

responsibility among five teams to

cover our church’s week each month.

These drivers committed to the same

weekday each month for six months.

It’s time to set our teams for August-

December! If you would like to be in this rotation,

please contact Jennifer in the Church Office. Dee

& Lynda Petty will deliver the first week of July.

CommUnity Thrift Store: Our recent community gifts were

$1400 to Bridging Generations,

$500 to Habersham Humane Soci-

ety, $500 to Clarkesville Library Summer Reading

Program, and $400 to Foothills Counseling. If you

would like to volunteer in the Saturday rotation,

please contact Jennifer in the Church Office.

Community Thrift Store welcomes your dona-

tions. Tax receipts are available. Donations gladly

accepted during store hours, Tuesday-Saturday

10am-2pm.

Nursing Home Ministry: Join us at the Habersham WEST

Nursing Home, 5:15pm monthly on

the third Monday night

(July 16), and the Habersham EAST Nursing

Home, 5:15pm monthly on the fourth Monday

night (July 23), for singing and fellowship with a

sweet group of folks. For more information, con-

tact Sandy Shell or call the Church.

The Haitian Choir is performing

for us on July 25th this will be a

Connectional event! One way

you can serve is to provide

housing for some of the choir members after their

performance. If you would like to serve in this way,

please contact the Church Office!

Yarn and instruction are available. They gather each Thursday at 10:00am in The Con-nection, room C-11. Contact the Church Office if you know of someone who needs the prayerful comfort of a shawl. Intercessory Prayer: Have you been thinking about ways to improve your prayer life? We have just the place for you! It is our Tuesday Morning Prayer Group which meets from 9:15-10:15 in The Connection. We come together and pray in one accord. If praying out loud is not in your comfort zone, no worries, you are still welcome to be a part of this group! If you have any questions call Miriam Iossi. Sweet Sleep Ministry: Morning Joy Circle is looking for someone, or a group, to assume responsibility for the Sweet Sleep Pillowcase Ministry. It is a wonderful prayer ministry that has blessed others since June of 2008. If you are interested in

leading this ministry or want more information, you can contact Sandy Stryker, 706-754-5778 or [email protected]. Fleece Blanket Ministry: This ministry will be taking a break for the summer but will star t back up in September. However, if you would like to help them get ready for the fall you can donate fleece blankets kits. Contact Jean Hulsey to donate!

Music Ministries

GROW Grow in the grace & knowledge of our lord & Savior Jesus Christ

- 2 Peter 3:18

Construction Is Complete!

The process of converting the Legacy Hall into our new Sunday School rooms is complete and the finished product looks wonderful. So much thought, prayer, and hard work has gone into this process

and the results could not be better! We are excited to have a common space for our adult Sunday School Classes!

Now is the time for you to get involved with a Sunday School class if you are not already! Below is a list of each class with a short description, all classes are open to new visitors.

The Aldersgate Class Their lessons consist of a review and discussion of contemporary Christian literature based on scripture. It is an interactive class led by members serving as teachers. The Aldersgate Class is very active in all aspects of our church including: organizing the Easter Sunrise breakfast, helping with new member lunch-eons, and Vacation Bible School. The Seekers Class If you are seeking the fellowship of other believers in their 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s, and are interested in age appropriate, Biblical topics of study, please consider the Seekers class. Topics may be general (ex. faith and love) or apologetic (“why we believe what we believe”). The Pilgrims Class The Pilgrims Sunday School class explores progres-sive Christianity with an emphasis on the Wesleyan tradition of scripture, tradition, reason, and experi-ence to guide our faith. The class has a discussion format.

The Upper Room Class They do a wide variety of studies, from books to vid-eo series, led by class members. Class members also enjoy doing activities together outside of church. The Good News Class This class is primarily retired folks, but all adults who are looking for a friendly class are welcomed. Lessons are from the Adult Bible Studies, an official resource of the United Methodist Church. The Good News Class supports a variety of ministry groups, including: the Methodist Children’s Home, Wesley Woods, Murphy-Harpst Children’s Home, Heifer Project International, UMCOR, and local needs. Young Adult Class Our newest class, led by Robin & Steve Wilks, is a place for out-of-high school and slightly older, single and marrieds, to come on Sunday mornings as busy schedules allow, and they are home on the weekends. It will be a flexible time of learning and growing together!

Recent Giving Projects Update

As a church we have recently had two giving opportunities for ministry. We had a fill the truck event that was focused on raising money and non-perishable grocery items for Sharing

& Caring’s food pantry. We were able to raise $615 for the food pantry! Thank you so much to all who donated! We also asked for donations toward our VBS program. Thank

you to all who gave toward the children, not only in our church but in our community. Your gift has made a positive impact on these children!

An upcoming giving opportunity is the youth group’s church cookout fundraiser. The event will follow morning worship on July 1st in the Fellowship Hall. Come by to get some cookout

lunch and items with our new church logo!

In addition to this being a fundraiser, it will be a send off of our two mission teams: our youth to Jacksonville, FL and our Honduras Mission Team! This will be a wonderful Sunday of fellowship and sending our teams out into the mission field!
