COME BACK HOME! By Jonnie Hutchison

The pull of this world with its offer of sinful pleasure is strong. Far too many Christians give in to the world and fall away from God rejecting the salvation in which they once rejoiced. The faithful shed tears and diligently pursue their erring brothers and sisters hoping to bring them back home, back to God’s fellowship, only to have their efforts fail because sin has hardened the hearts of those they love. The writer of Hebrews describes it in these terms in Hebrews 10:26-27, “For if we sin will-fully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a cer-tain fearful expectation of judgment,

and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.” Dear brother, dear sister, if you have become unfaithful to the Lord in your life these words de-scribe you and what you may expect if you do not repent and come back home.

Consider what you left when you left the Lord. You left your God, the One who devised a plan to save you from your sins and willingly sent His only begotten Son into the world to die on the cross for you (John 3:16; Rom. 5:8-9). You left your Savior, the one who shed His precious blood on the cross to provide the means of for-

giveness. You left all hope, the hope that anchors your soul in a sin-sick world, the hope of existing in heaven in eternity (Eph. 2:12; Heb. 6:19). You left the fellowship of God and His church and have cho-sen instead to fellowship “the unfruitful works of darkness” (Eph. 5:11). You left the freedom that is in Christ to return to the terrible bondage of sin. Jesus said, “Whoever commits sin is the slave of sin” and inspiration states that one who yields himself in obe-dience to sin is it’s slave (John 8:34; Rom. 6:17-18).

You left life for death. “the wages of sin is death” is true of any and all sin whether it is com-mitted by the non-Christian or a Christian (Rom. 6:23).

But what have you gained by leaving your Lord? In reality you have gained nothing of any lasting val-ue whatsoever. Whatever material thing you have gained will ultimately be destroyed (2 Pet. 3:9-10). Whatever earthly relationship you have entered that has contributed to your unfaithfulness will not last beyond this brief life. In essence you have lost every-thing that matters and gained only one thing that will continue in eternity and that is punishment in a dev-il’s hell separated from God, and from every loved one who has remained faithful to God, forever and ever and ever!

Sometimes we can be so short-sighted. To fail to

look beyond this life is the height of folly. It is the purview of fools to reject God (Psalm 19:1). How very sad when a child of God forsakes his/her Lord to return like a pig to wallow again in the filth of sin or like a dog to return to eat its own vomit. Such a person has become once again a “slave of corrup-tion” and entangled gain in the “pollutions of the world” (2 Peter 2:20-22). Oh, what a sad state these graphic descriptions portray!

But there is good news. The unfaithful has it within his/her ability to return to his/her Lord! “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteous-ness” (1 John 1:9). A penitent heart pulsing with godly sorrow will surely bring the erring child of God home! (2 Corinthians 7:10). Like the lost boy in our Lord’s parable, who went into the far country and wasted all of his inheritance in riotous (sinful) living, but then, in the pig pen of want, realizing where his choices had brought him, made up his mind to return home to his father who was waiting eagerly for his penitent son with open arms, ready and willing to forgive. God, the one you have forsak-en, the one you left for the far country of sin, is that loving, forgiving Father! What about you? God is pleasing. Your brothers and sisters in Christ are pray-ing. Are you ready to come back to what you have left? Are you willing to come home?

(“Affections” - Continued from page 1)

A LITTLE PLACE "Father, where shall I work today?"

And my love flowed warm and free.

Then He pointed me out a tiny spot

And said, "Tend that for Me."

I answered quickly, "Oh, no, not there,

Why, no one would ever see

No matter how well my work was done.

Not that little place for me!"

And the word He spoke, it was not stern.

He answered me tenderly:

"Ah, little one, search that heart of thine,

Are thou working for them or Me?

Nazareth was a little place... And so was Galilee."

FROM GBN DAILY LIFT Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for

many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able (Luke 13:24).

Matthew 7:14 says, “there are few who find it.” “It” is referring to Heaven in this pas-sage. Heaven is our purpose for life. What are we doing with our life if Heaven isn’t our num-ber one goal? Sometimes we think that Heav-en is an unobtainable goal, we think that we have to be perfect to go to Heaven, but that certainly is not the case.

When we boil it all down, obedience is the only thing we need to do to go to Heaven. If we are obedient then we will do all of the things in the Bible, we will pray, we will study, we will be selfless. It is when we are disobedi-ent; when we are not doing what the Bible has laid out for us to do, Heaven becomes unob-tainable. Few obey God’s word. Few will find Heaven.
