Animal Species Green turtle is a large sea turtle belonging to the family Cheloniidae. It is the only species in the genus Chelonia. The range of the species extends throughout tropical and subtropical seas around the world, with two main populations in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

Characteristics:Size: Green sea turtles reach about 78 to 112 cm and 68 to 186 kg. The largest individual

collected was 1.5 m and 395 kg.

Body shape: Sea turtles are characterized by a large, streamlined shell.

Coloration: Sea turtles are olive-green, yellow, greenish-brown, reddish-brown, or black in colour.

Flippers: Limbs are flippers adapted for swimming. Sea turtles are awkward and vulnerable on land.

Shell: Depending on species, the adult carapace ranges in shape from oval to heart-shaped.

What it eats•Green sea turtles have finely serrated jaws adapted for a vegetarian diet of sea grasses and algae.

Where it lives•Various species of sea turtles are found in warm and temperate seas throughout the world.

Habitat•Green sea turtle are found in shallow, coastal waters, bays, and lagoons

How it Adapts to the environment.• It has a shell to protect it from

predators. • It has fins to swim fast.

Why and How does it migrate?

• They migrate to their home place of where they were born to lay their eggs. The green sea turtle migrate through powerful wave currents like in the movie Finding Nemo.

It is believed that they migrate to a new feeding ground. It is in this primary feeding area where the turtles probably remain throughout their lives, except during breeding season. When it is their time to mate and nest, both males and females leave their feeding grounds and migrate to the nesting beach.
