Pastoral Region Weekend Masses Sacraments

“The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority

and not as the scribes.” Mk 1:22

When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The

whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he

drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him. (Mk 1:32-34)

- Mc 1, 32-34

In today’s gospel the apostles got caught up in the day to day. A paraphrase: “Jesus, there are people looking for you here. Your popular right now. Let’s stay where it’s comfortable and the people like you for the healing you did yesterday.” Jesus kept his eyes on the mission: “Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose I have come.” It’s easy for us to get caught up in the day to day. As long as it’s occasional, that’s what has to be done. But God gives us the Sabbath each week and the Church gives us Lent each year as a reminder to step back and see again the big things in life.

I’m very excited that NET Ministries will be here next Saturday! They will give a retreat for 6th graders, 7th graders, and other teens of our pastoral region who are preparing to for confirmation in 2018. It’s wonderful to see these young people (ages 19-24) sharing their faith with our kids. …and thank you to the families that offered to give the ministry team a place to sleep.

St. Joseph Pastoral Council will meet on Wednesday of this week. First Tuesday confessions and adoration will be at St. Joseph from 7-8pm.

Reminder again: I will have a short Q & A with high school kids with games to follow at St. Peter next Sunday. Ask your teenage kids if they would like to attend.

The beginning of Lent is just over a week away. How will you mark this time of growth? You might learn about Matthew Kelly’s Best Lent Ever (daily e-mail). In Christ,

St. Vincent de Paul

Society

In the Gospel, we

find that Jesus would

rise very early before dawn and go to

a deserted place to pray and then he

went out to preach and to heal.

Please pray for the poor and suffer-

ing, the sick and homeless. Many in

our neighborhood live in dread of

not being able to pay their rent or

utilities. And many more face not

having enough food for themselves

or their families. Thank you for your

help and support in bringing God’s

love to those in need.

Catholic Charities

Caregiver Support Group Volunteers Needed:

Do you have a listening ear, a compassionate heart and empathetic spirit? The Caregiver Assistance Network has an opportunity for you. We are looking for facilitators for our caregiver support groups in the Middletown/Fairfield Township areas. The time commitment is at most 3-4 hours per month. We offer training on group facilitation, so no experience is necessary. Facilitators encourage, support and most of all listen to group members as they relate their experiences, support each other and provide a positive, healthy envi-ronment for dealing with the stresses of caregiving for an aging or ailing loved one. Please consider giving back for a few hours each month – your time will make all the difference to struggling caregivers right here in your neigh-borhood. Call the Caregiver CAREline at (513) 869-4483 or visit www.ccswoh.org/how-to-get-involved/volunteer to fill out the online application (put CAN in the comments section). The Caregiver Assistance Network is a program of Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio, funded through the Council on Aging.

A special invitation is given for you to consider: to serve your parish as a lector or an ex-traordinary minister of Holy Communion. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are adult (or teen) Catholics in good standing who have a love for the Eucharist and wish to serve their fellow parishioners. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are ordinary Christians who model Christian living in faith and conduct in their ministry and in their daily lives. A formal training pro-gram for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion will be provided on Tuesday, February 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the church. For more information and to register for one of these training programs, please contact Mary Richter at 863-1040, ext. 17 or email [email protected].

CLOW Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Please consider being a presenter or a helper. We need help during the 9:15am Mass or at the 11:45am Mass. High School students and older may volunteer! Please contact Father Rob or Mary Pat Austing to help our next generation of believers!

Mission Statement St. Julie Billiart Parish, a Roman Catholic community in downtown Hamilton, Ohio, embraces the diversity of all who seek to become members of the one body of Christ. We gather together to

give praise to our Lord and celebrate His divine mercy. We strive to build God’s Kingdom through worship, social service, education, and fellowship.

Last week was Commitment Weekend for the 2018 Catholic Ministries Appeal. Please join with Catholics in every parish throughout our archdiocese who are Impacting the Story through local, Catholic ministries for people right here in our communities. These ministries depend on our help each year!

The parish families of St. Julie Billiart contributed $24,413.00 to the 2017 CMA. This year our goal is $25,320.00.

If you have already responded by mail or online, or if you brought your completed pledge card to place in the offertory today, thank you! To make a gift online, visit CatholicAppeal.net.

Sr. Dorothy Stang Fund

Sister Dorothy began her ministry in Brazil in 1966, where she worked to help poor farmers build independent futures for their families until her murder in 2005. Her work is recognized around the world for its consistency with the mission of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur to help educate the poor. Donations to the Feb-ruary Make a Change program will be sent direct-ly to the Sister Dorothy Stang Fund to continue her work in Brazil and to fund continued devel-opment of educational aids.
