Questions of the Week September 29, 2019 Gospel

God cares for the poor and the oppressed, and we should too!

Question for Children: Jesus teaches us to share what we have with others. What do you have that you are able to share?

Question for Youth: The Gospel story tells us that we are judged by what we do or don’t do for the poor and needy. How are you currently reaching out to those in need? What more could you do? Question for Adults: What choices can you or have you made to balance your own life with those who are homeless, poor and in need of assis-tance for daily living? How does this Gospel reading inform you about that?

St. Francis of Assisi was a wealthy young man of

privilege, served as a soldier and was a prisoner of war.

He heard God’s call and went on to be one of the most

venerated Catholic saints. He designed the first

Nativity set and was the first man ever recorded to

receive the Stigmata, the wounds of Christ. Saint Francis of Assisi is the patron saint for ecologists — a

title honoring his boundless love for animals and nature.

Shepherd’s Call

October will bring several opportunities to witness to our faith and glorify God in our pastoral region! The first weekend of October (next weekend) is Respect Life Sunday. We celebrate God’s gift of life; we protect life, and we call upon others to protect life. I invite you to gather across from the McDonald’s on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. at 2:00pm on October 6 to join Butler County Right to Life witnessing to and praying for an end to abortion. A second collection next weekend will support pro-life groups.

October 13, 1917 was the date of the miracle of the sun at Fatima. If you are not familiar with it, look it up online or, better yet, at FORMED: SEARCH, Documentaries, Finding Fatima. We can honor this grace received from Our Lady, Queen of Fatima, and share the great concern she had for the eternal good of souls by joining the Rosary Rally. We will pray the Rosary in the side lot of St. Julie’s, across from Marcum park at noon on Saturday, October 12. Our world desperately needs prayer. Join us! Please.

Our bus trip / one day pilgrimage to the Marian shrine in Carey, Ohio is October 16. There is still time to register with the parish office. We will have a Night of Praise and worship with Eucharistic exposition at St. Peter’s on Wednesday, October 23. Please strengthen your gift of faith this coming month.

This Tuesday the Holy Hour is at St. Joseph. It is a time of silent adoration concluding with benediction at 8pm. There have been several funerals in the region the past three weeks. Please remember to pray for the deceased and for all the poor souls in purgatory. In terms of honoring the mortal remains of the deceased, St. Stephen’s cemetery will soon complete a columbarium for the interment of ashes. The Church sees burial of the intact corpse as better demonstrating our belief in the resurrection of the body, but cremation is permitted when the remains are respectfully interred.

At a recent banquet Archbishop Dennis Schnurr recounted a miracle that took place here in Ohio in 1873. (It was about this time that William Wiegand was healed of blindness in Hamilton through healing water from Lourdes.) There was a procession from Frenchtown to the basilica shrine to Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, Ohio. It poured rain during the entire procession, yet the participants remained dry. We have the opportunity to be there! Consider joining our one day pilgrimage on Wednesday, October 16. In Christ,

Baptism: If you have an infant to be baptized, please call one of the parish offices.

Marriage: Schedule through

Father Rob.

Anointing of the Sick: If you or a loved one are in the hospital or expecting sur-gery, call one of the parish offices. In an emergency, call 513-773-4419.

New to the parish? Questions about the Catholic faith? Is God leading you to be Catholic? Schedule an appointment with Father Rob.

New to the area? Recently out of college? Register with the parish near you.

Living Stones

St. Vincent de Paul Each parish of our pastoral region has its own chapter for St. Vincent de Paul. St. Vincent de Paul is a lay organization of volunteers that provide assistance to those in need within each parishes’ boundaries. Members, called Vincentians, grow

spiritually and develop Christian friendships serving as intermediaries between those able to help and those needing help. St. Vincent de Paul needs people with time to serve. St. Julie’s chapter meets on Monday nights, St. Peter meets on Monday & Thursday mornings, and St. Joseph is TBD. Everyone has something to offer. Everyone has room to grow. Call your parish office to get more information.

First Holy Communion/ First Reconciliation Thanks to all those who attended the First Communion Parent Meeting from St. Julie and St. Pete’s parishes last Sunday. If you were unable to attend, please contact Mary Pat Austing. For those from St. Julie Parish and/or PREP please read chapter one in the Reconciliation Book and complete the pages for PREP class on Oct. 6. Send the book to PREP class each week. Thank you!

Sign Language at PREP We are lucky to have so many people share their talents and love of the Lord with our Pastoral Region Parish Reli-gious Education Program. Miami University graduate and St. Pete Parishioner, Hannah Houser will be coming twice a month to PREP to share sign language of the prayers and Catholic Vocabulary with our students. What a great way to memorize and pray the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be and more!

FIRE DRILL at PREP at St. Julie NEXT SUNDAY, Oct. 6. Weather permitting, the 175 plus students and teachers will be walking in single file around the Fenmont. Please drive carefully.

Chapter 1 in the white Reconciliation Book is due on Oct. 6 at PREP Class. Please send the books to class each week. Parents are asked to read and complete the chapter pages with their child.

Your Talents could be put to Good Use! Our wonderful PREP Catechists and CLOW presenters need substitute teachers once in a while. Could you support our young families and help teach a lesson once in a while? Call Mary Pat Austing to discuss the possibilities. All volun-teers will need to take the VIRTUS Child Protection Seminar which provides important information for anyone with children in their lives.

PREP BAKESALE on Oct. 19/20 at all Masses at St. Julie. The funds raised go to RICE BOWL, Catholic Relief Services, Pregnancy Center East, Thanksgiving Baskets and other needy causes. Please come by the main entrance to church to get some sweet treats. If you have a treat you enjoy baking or making, we would love to add your donations to our bake sale! The Confirmation classes will be selling the Baked Goods after all Masses.

2019 SPS Walk-a-Thon, Eagles Rock! St. Peter in Chains School’s EPIC, our parent-teacher collaboration, will be hosting the 11th annual Walk-a-Thon Wednesday, October 9th, 2019. The Walk-a-Thon Committee is currently seeking private donors and corporate sponsors. With this fundraiser, EPIC has provided integral support for the school and set it on the path to continued success. For the first time, St. Peter in Chains School, in partnership with the Great Miami Valley YMCA, is offering preschool and a year-round early childhood learning center, which provides parents with a Christ-centered educational option and nurturing childcare. EPIC supported this development, which includes the first phase of a multi-year plan to air condition the school. EPIC funds are also being used to reimagine our science lab, create an outdoor learning space, upgrade furnishings in classrooms and other areas, enhance student technology, fund field trips, and much more. With your generosity, EPIC will continue to help St. Peter in Chains School shine with Christ’s light for all to see. We hope to have all donations by Monday, October 7, 2019. Donor/Sponsor commitment forms may be found in the back of the church or you can donate online at: https://stpeterinchains.weshareonline.org/ws/opportunities/WalkathonDonations If you want your donation to support a specific child or family, please add that name in the comments.
