the promenade an elegant tiled pathway laid through the rocks with a mix of the colours of houses by the marina and those of the boats on the slipway in Capolungo, a couple of kilometres away towards the east. Surrounded by nature, sheltered from sun and wind by parks and gardens, and guarded by the “castle” and the Gropallo Tower you can enjoy, in an exceptionally mild climate, intriguing views, enchanting panoramas or the magic of a stormy sea when mighty waves hit the rocks. In summer, after a swim in the sea or swimming pool, excellent dining is available in the typical restaurants on top of the cliffs. Alternatively in winter you can taste the delicious focaccia, sip a nice cup of tea, and linger in the warm sun, protected from the northern wind. the parks a precious and elegant “green belt" of about 25 acres lies between the mountains and the sea. Its perfumes, the large rose-garden, the perfect symbiosis with the sea front, the distant views from the lawns gently sloping to the shore make these parks unique. The patrician villas (Gropallo, Serra, Grimaldi and Luxoro) inside the parks, preserve precious collections and house the Genoese Modern Art Gallery. Thanks to its remarkable naturalistic and cultural features, this unique landscape provides an excellent setting for a number of international events, such as the Ballet Festival, which make Nervi a particularly charming and amusing place to visit. the hills walking up the "creuze" from downtown one can reach San Rocco di Nervi and Sant’ Ilario. Their churches are built atop a ridge overlooking the whole Golfo Paradiso. From here it is possible to climb up to Mount Fasce and or follow the more comfortable paths on the coast. The full southern exposure makes it also possible to walk along the footpath in winter. On very clear winter days, the usual view of Portofino's promontory and Cape Mortola is coupled with that of the isles of Corsica and Capraia. Olive groves and palm trees grow next to the terraced stone walls lining the pathways; from there, looking down at the sea beyond the foliage, you can have a breathtaking view of the horizon stretching in front of you. Unusual places offering refreshments are to be found here too, with typical dishes and amazing panoramas. the harbour is Nervi's historic centre, as shown by the castle and the Roman bridge. Here, far from the city traffic, most social and sports activities take place; it is here that local life mingles with the curiosity of the "foreigners". The houses with their bright colours, the fishing boats ("gozzi") and the small barges aground on the wharf, and the imposing “wisdom” of the Emiliani College all contribute to make this a place full of character. This is where ferries depart in summer, setting out for Portofino, San Fruttuoso, Camogli, Cinque Terre and the Ancient Port of Genoa. In the picturesque village of Nervi you can chose between renting boats and canoes, watching a water polo match, tasting "focaccia" and home made ice-cream or enjoying, excellent fish and seafood in the local restaurants. sea art nature
