Limitless! That is the new theme
of the International Mission
Board. It conveys the heart and
desire of that organization in
reaching the world for Jesus Christ. Limitless giving, sending,
praying, going, serving, leading, and the list goes on. As I think
about what lies ahead of Second Baptist Church over the coming
decade, this word resonates within my heart. We too, must be
limitless in our efforts. William Carey, the father of modern
Missions, once said, “Expect great things from God, attempt great
things for God.” I pray that we would not only expect great things
but would attempt them as well. During the month of July we will
highlight the top three regions for strategic mission focus: North
Africa and the Middle East (N.A.M.E.), East Asia, and Europe.
Make sure that you are praying and seeking to understand God’s
heart for these regions. This effort is only part of the limitless
work God has called us all too.
While this missional journey is one of faith, it is not the
only journey of faith our God has called us to. Over 17 years ago,
God moved our church to a journey of faith that has culminated in
relocation, building and growth. We are on task to pay off the
balance of our current loans in August 2018. This is an incredible
milestone and will dramatically change the life of our church. Not
only will it free up funds for new missionary work, it also allows
us to consider the completion of Phase 3 in our building program.
Therefore, during the July business meeting I will be asking the
church to recommend the nominating committee form a new Vi-
sion & Planning Committee for the purpose of developing a plan
for the completion of phase 3.
Whether it is the ministry at home or our missionary
work around the world, God has called us to limitless service and
devotion. One of the key realities in all these things is money to
accomplish them. Let me encourage you to faithfully give your
tithes and offerings each week. I know that many are traveling
during this summer season but join me in committing to stay
faithful in your giving and in your service. While on paper we are
behind in our budget, I would simply remind you that last year
was the largest single increase in our budget history. It was a step
of faith in excess of $91,000. In light of this, I will remind you that
we are on track to take in the largest undesignated offering in our
church’s 65 year history. Let us thank God for such blessings and
continue to faithfully steward all that he has entrusted to us indi-
vidually and corporately as the body of Christ.
For His Glory,
Justin Hiens

Thank you so much to our Second Baptist
Church family for the cards, prayers, visits and
expressions of sympathy during the loss of my mom,
Dona Cook.
The Brad Cook family
Thank, Brotherhood, you for your time and effort in
placing the handrail at my door. The rail was much needed and I
feel safe each time I go outside. I appreciate your thoughtfulness.
I’m glad I got to spend time with you. God bless you!
