Can you believe that 2016 has come and

will soon be gone? As I wrap up two years as

your Pastor, I cannot express how grateful I

am for this opportunity in serving Christ and

you. As we draw this year to a close allow

me to challenge you in two areas.

This time of year my Facebook feed blows up with people

posting such things as, “He’s the Reason for the Season.” Let’s

Keep Christ in Christmas”, or “like and share if you are not

ashamed to say Merry Christmas.” We are the defenders of

Christmas and no politically correct campaign is going to keep us

from celebrating. However, it is amazing that those same

crusaders of Christmas begin to change their tune when it comes

to worshipping on Christmas. “Well, we have a tradition of family

time on Christmas morning and won’t be able to make it”, is one

recent comment I heard. Or there is this classic, “We will worship

at home with our family that day.” Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I

want to remind you that the most important family time to be

involved in this Christmas is corporate worship of our Savior. On

Sunday, December 25 at 10:15 a.m. I pray that the church is

packed as we gather to keep Christ in Christmas. I believe that it

will be an incredible day of worship and opportunity. Yes, our

schedule will be altered that day like everyone else's. Yet, that’s

what worship does, it alters us. When I came to Christ 20 years

ago, He altered my plans, He changed my desires. Let me appeal

to you this Christmas to make it the top priority of your day to be

in worship with your faith family. On top of that, invite people to

attend with you. Many are open to spiritual truths during this time

of year. They know that Christmas is about Christ, so what an

opportunity we have to invite an unchurched family to join us on

Christmas morning for worship.

Finally, as we approach the new year, I want to encourage you

to evaluate your walk with the Lord. How have you grown this

year? What spiritual victories have you experienced? What areas

have been the most difficult? With these questions comes the

challenge of responding to the Holy Spirit’s work in our heart. I

pray that 2017 will be a year of great growth in your life and mine.

I want to challenge all of us in reading God’s word in 2017.

Therefore, I will be placing a bible reading plan in the newsletter

each week to help assist you in that process. Secondly, I want to

ask you to be in service on Sunday, January 1 as I will present us

with a time of commitment for 2017. This is not a resolution to be

a better Christian but rather a call to commitment and surrender.

May God bless you and your family during these coming weeks

and I look forward to celebrating the birth of our Savior with you

on Sunday.

For His Glory,

Pastor Justin

Thank you so much for allowing me to grow and

flourish here at Union, not only in my education,

but also spiritually. Thank you for supporting me

through this journey financially and helping me

fulfill God’s plan for my life.

Maddie Dotson

I want to thank you and the members of Second Baptist Church

for your continued support of my future. As I enter my junior year

as a history education major, I am reminded of your faithfulness in

supporting the futures of Union students. I strive to make you

proud.

Brianna Hammond

Thank you so much for your generosity. The scholarship I

received has helped me be a student here at Union University. I

greatly appreciate your gift.

Tyler Mosley

I want to personally thank you for your generosity in providing

me with the Second Baptist Church scholarships. It is because of

your generous gifts that I am able to study elementary education

in a Christ-centered environment like Union. Thank you so much

for your continuing support.

Randi Lynn McBride

I am very grateful for the gift you have given me by providing

scholarships to students. Your generosity empowers me to study

music in my sophomore year. Thank you for supporting my

education.
