To Whom it May Concern:
It is my pleasure to support Dexter Earney in his nomination for the GLACURH Advisor of the
Year award in recognition for his leadership and guidance with the Grand Valley State University
Residence Housing Association (GVSU RHA). Dexter is the current advisor and oversees the General
Assembly, the Executive Board, and two Graduate Assistants.
Dexter has been a crucial component of the GVSU RHA’s success in this past year; with the
combination of two organizations—RHA and NRHH—the transition into the year has been more diffi-
cult than usual for the organization. Two positions were added to the executive board as well as the
addition of NRHH members becoming permanent RHA members, and Dexter helped the executive
board maneuver through the transition smoothly. There have been other changes this year that
have been successful due to Dexter’s support such as the name change for Living Center govern-
ments and the process for funding requests.
Many of the students in GVSU RHA look to Dexter for guidance, leadership, and support. He
makes connections with students through personal interactions in and out of meetings and they af-
fect students in a very positive way. There are countless students at Grand Valley—specifically within
GVSU RHA—that lean on Dexter professionally, academically, and personally. His impact on their
undergraduate experiences is undeniably a powerful one.
Specifically, Dexter has served as a very helpful advisor for me and my fellow Graduate Assis-
tant Advisor. He understands the importance for us to learn about advising students and has al-
lowed us to grow in our roles in GVSU RHA. Dexter teaches best by letting us make our own mistakes;
he allows us to take on what we find interesting and helps us when necessary, but doesn’t mi-
cromanage or hover over our work. Dexter has taught me many outlooks on how to be a great ad-
visor for students and I hope to continue to learn under Dexter’s guidance until graduation.
Dexter deserves to be recognized for the work he has put into GVSU RHA because he has
been central to the organization and it would not be the organization it is today without him. I am
proud to call Dexter my advisor and would not want anyone else to fill his shoes. Thank you for your
consideration for Dexter Earney as the GLACURH Advisor of the Year.
Kind Regards,
Meagan Mullen
Graduate Assistant Advisor, GVSU RHA
