Hi All, How about some great news to start othe month? In fact, how about nothing but great news in my leƩer to you this month? First o, how about our Veterans’ Outreach Program receiving generous funding from Arizona Veterans’ Services. That’s right! “The Art of Healing”, which has grown and grown since its incepƟon, has been granted the funding to not only maintain itself, but also to grow itself for the next twelve months. With the support of many of our Member Leagues, who have carried out our evergrowing mentoring programs that serve our military veterans, your Alliance has been able to ensure that our momentum of this everimportant program will not be deterred. On another front, we want to welcome a new grant partner into our fold, “The Surplus Line AssociaƟon of Arizona”. This foundaƟon, formed of Arizona Wholesale Insurance Brokers, has accepted the Arizona Art Alliance under its generous grantgiving umbrella that supports Arizonabased nonprots. We plan to use this money to oer our membership some new surprises and to further forƟfy our Outreach. Thank you, Surplus Line AssociaƟon! And of course, “It’s ShowƟme”! That’s right. March is the Ɵme to go to the WHAM West Gallery! And “What for?” you may ask? Well, one of the best darn visual arts exhibits you are gonna’ see! That’s “What for”! It’s “InterpretaƟons III” hƩps://www.facebook.com/events/731593047045623/ starring some of Arizona’s most creaƟve and exciƟng arƟsts showing osome of their latest creaƟons. This show is even beƩer than last year’s. I know….how is that even possible? Like our exhibiƟons at the Holland Gallery in north ScoƩsdale, our exhibiƟons at WHAM have turned into quite the eyepleaser. The ArƟsts’ RecepƟon for “InterpretaƟons III” is on Saturday, March 10 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. You won’t want to miss this one. Meet the arƟsts, have a bite to eat, perhaps a sip or two of wine, and enjoy some great art! You may also want to take one of these masterpieces home for yourself. You know, one thing I have noƟced, is that the prices for many of these creaƟons are more than reasonable and I oŌen wonder how our arƟsts can oer these original works at such a great price. See you there and I think you will agree. “The Heat is On”! That’s right, summer is right around the corner and so is the kickoof our annual Online Art CompeƟƟon, “The Heat is On” hƩps:// azartalliance.com/calltoarƟsts/. The Call to ArƟsts is now out and open to ALL ARIZONABASED ARTISTS. This is always summer fun and a chance for us arƟsts to show our skills in a wideopen art compeƟƟon. Oh yeah! Almost forgot, there are CASH PRIZES for the top three nishers. Just a liƩle grease to make it more interesƟng. The Heat is On! Ar¥s Cong¢ess 2018! St§dio Ar¥ Proposal! Member Leag§e Activities! Communit® Out¢each! ARTiculation! List of Events & More! We also want to welcome some new Member Leagues to our fold. Say “hi” to the Wickenburg Art Club and to the Mountain ArƟsts Guild in PrescoƩ. These are two longstanding, established art organizaƟons that are certainly an asset to our Alliance. I could go on and on, there’s always so much to talk about! Oh yes, and if you want to make a dierence, join our team. We are especially in need of not just arƟst outreach mentors, but we need some people with honed business skills. Always can use some help there. Let me know if you can help. [email protected] UnƟl next Ɵme, stay creaƟve. Mike Brady, President Arizona Art Alliance

Arts  Congress  2018  took place  in  front of  the Arizona State  Senate  and  House  of  Representa ves  building.  The Arizona Ci zens for the Arts advocacy organiza on has  been  organizing  the  annual  Arts  Congress  for  20 years  under  the  leadership  of  Rusty  Foley,  Execu ve Director.  The all‐day event included mee ng legislators and  talking  about  arts  and  cultural  issues.    Topic  of discussion was to advocate for  increase funding for the Arizona Commission for the Arts.

There  were  many  other  state‐wide  art  organiza ons represented.    It  is  important that ar sts and art groups make  their  voices  heard.  The  Alliance  has  a  large membership  and  are  dedicated  to  the  arts,  outreach and volunteerism. We are proud to represent the ar sts in our organiza on and stress the importance of art.

Kaz Wilder explained the experience by saying, “It was encouraging to see the  many  students  and  young  people  so  passionate  and  involved  in championing for the Arts to our law makers. Hopefully the State Legislators will  get  the  message  that  the  ARTS  are  vital  to  our  individual  health, learning, and society.”

I’m  kinda  in  hot water with  The  Big  Irishman. Let  me  explain.  I  am very  an ‐gun.  If  I  had

my way  every  gun  in  the world would  be melted down and  turned  into beau ful art. Unfortunately,  The  Big  Irishman  is  an  avid gun  collector  and  hunter.  Usually  this disagreement  quietly  simmers  just  below the  surface  of  our  marriage,  but  given recent  events  I  have  been  extremely  vocal about my opinions. I’m even willing to admit that  I  have  on  occasion  said  some  hur ul things.  Neither  of  us  has  consulted  an a orney about divorce, but there  is a bit of a pall hanging over our  me  together. This blog  represents  a  reaching  out  and  a promise  to  try  to  control my  big mouth.  I won’t  change  my  opinion,  but  I  shall endeavor  not  to  turn  into  a  screaming, crying shrew every  me the subject of guns comes up.  With  that  as  an  introduc on,  may  I introduce this month’s topic: COWBOY ART. The  Big  Irishman  loves  all  things  western and  outdoorsy.  I’m  fairly  certain  that  in  a past  life he was a  roo n’  too n’  cowboy.  I might add  that  John Wayne  is his personal hero.

H e r e ’ s   P r o o f !

Such a sweet picture. My personal favorite.

A very unique relationship.

A cowboy and his horse.

I think this is a cowgirl. Notice the scarf.

The Guys.

Okay, Big Irishman. Are we friends again? Good. Now can you clean the garage?
