Hi All, How about some great news to start off the month? In fact, how about nothing but great news in my le er to you this month? First off, how about our Veterans’ Outreach Program receiving generous funding from Arizona Veterans’ Services. That’s right! “The Art of Healing”, which has grown and grown since its incep on, has been granted the funding to not only maintain itself, but also to grow itself for the next twelve months. With the support of many of our Member Leagues, who have carried out our ever‐growing mentoring programs that serve our military veterans, your Alliance has been able to ensure that our momentum of this ever‐important program will not be deterred.
On another front, we want to welcome a new grant partner into our fold, “The Surplus Line Associa on of Arizona”. This founda on, formed of Arizona Wholesale Insurance Brokers, has accepted the Arizona Art Alliance under its generous grant‐giving umbrella that supports Arizona‐based nonprofits. We plan to use this money to offer our membership some new surprises and to further for fy our Outreach. Thank you, Surplus Line Associa on! And of course, “It’s Show me”! That’s right. March is the me to go to the WHAM West Gallery! And “What for?” you may ask? Well, one of the best darn visual arts exhibits you are gonna’ see! That’s “What for”! It’s “Interpreta ons III” h ps://www.facebook.com/events/731593047045623/ starring some of Arizona’s most crea ve and exci ng ar sts showing off some of their latest crea ons. This show is even be er than last year’s. I know….how is that even possible? Like our exhibi ons at the Holland Gallery in north Sco sdale, our exhibi ons at WHAM have turned into quite the eye‐pleaser. The Ar sts’ Recep on for “Interpreta ons III” is on Saturday, March 10 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. You won’t want to miss this one. Meet the ar sts, have a bite to eat, perhaps a sip or two of wine, and enjoy some great art! You may also want to take one of these masterpieces home for yourself. You know, one thing I have no ced, is that the prices for many of these crea ons are more than reasonable and I o en wonder how our ar sts can offer these original works at such a great price. See you there and I think you will agree.
“The Heat is On”! That’s right, summer is right around the corner and so is the kickoff of our annual Online Art Compe on, “The Heat is On” h ps://azartalliance.com/call‐to‐ar sts/. The Call to Ar sts is now out and open to ALL ARIZONA‐BASED ARTISTS. This is always summer fun and a chance for us ar sts to show our skills in a wide‐open art compe on. Oh yeah! Almost forgot, there are CASH PRIZES for the top three finishers. Just a li le grease to make it more interes ng.

We also want to welcome some new Member Leagues to our fold. Say “hi” to the Wickenburg Art Club and to the Mountain Ar sts Guild in Presco . These are two longstanding, established art organiza ons that are certainly an asset to our Alliance. I could go on and on, there’s always so much to talk about! Oh yes, and if you want to make a difference, join our team. We are especially in need of not just ar st outreach mentors, but we need some people with honed business skills. Always can use some help there. Let me know if you can help. [email protected]

Arts Congress 2018 took place in front of the Arizona State Senate and House of Representa ves building. The Arizona Ci zens for the Arts advocacy organiza on has been organizing the annual Arts Congress for 20 years under the leadership of Rusty Foley, Execu ve Director. The all‐day event included mee ng legislators and talking about arts and cultural issues. Topic of discussion was to advocate for increase funding for the Arizona Commission for the Arts.

many years through the Arizona Commission for the Arts. Each group of a endees was assigned to their respec ve districts.
There were many other state‐wide art organiza ons represented. It is important that ar sts and art groups make their voices heard. The Alliance has a large membership and are dedicated to the arts, outreach and volunteerism. We are proud to represent the ar sts in our organiza on and stress the importance of art.

Kaz Wilder explained the experience by saying, “It was encouraging to see the many students and young people so passionate and involved in championing for the Arts to our law makers. Hopefully the State Legislators will get the message that the ARTS are vital to our individual health, learning, and society.”

Awards for the gourd entries were presented at the next classes.
The Arizona Fine Arts Expo hosted two of the Extra Special Art Program
classes in February. Students visited many ar sts that they have seen on previous
yearly trips to this show, talked to gourd ar sts about their work and the
students’ entries in the Annual Running of the Gourds show in Casa Grande,
watched a glass blowing demonstra on, and so much more! An exci ng and fun

As the Events Coordinator for the Alliance, it’s my job to find venues and events that are new and interes ng, and provide more marke ng opportuni es for our Member Leagues and their ar sts with the group power of our art alliance.
At the January 24, 2018, AAA Rep Mee ng, I distributed a proposal to conduct Studio Art Tours of our Member Leagues. This is the perfect vehicle for showcasing all of our par cipa ng Member Leagues in their own neighborhoods where they live, work, play, and CREATE ART, thus fulfilling the Mission and Vision of the Arizona Art Alliance.

Your Arizona Art Alliance requests that members of the Alliance apply for volunteer posi ons to strengthen the opera onal management of our organiza on and to help the Alliance be er serve its membership. Many hands are needed to work on art show opportuni es, informa on sharing, and other services that
benefit all member groups – including the Veteran’s Programs and General Outreach. A few very dedicated volunteers have been trying to do it all. More volunteers, to par cipate on commi ees, work with a Board Member or par cipate on the Board of Directors, would make some very beneficial ideas achievable, spread the work efforts out to reasonable hours and tap into the talent, skills and crea vity of the full membership. We request that you seriously consider sharing some of your me and skills to make good things happen for the benefit of all
the 20 organiza ons that now make up the Alliance Membership. Sharing your skills and me will benefit so many. Let’s make this Alliance of art organiza ons work be er for everyone. Mike Brady, President Arizona Art Alliance

I’m kinda in hot water with The Big Irishman. Let me explain. I am very an ‐gun. If I had
my way every gun in the world would be melted down and turned into beau ful art. Unfortunately, The Big Irishman is an avid gun collector and hunter. Usually this disagreement quietly simmers just below the surface of our marriage, but given recent events I have been extremely vocal about my opinions. I’m even willing to admit that I have on occasion said some hur ul things. Neither of us has consulted an a orney about divorce, but there is a bit of a pall hanging over our me together. This blog represents a reaching out and a promise to try to control my big mouth. I won’t change my opinion, but I shall endeavor not to turn into a screaming, crying shrew every me the subject of guns comes up. With that as an introduc on, may I introduce this month’s topic: COWBOY ART. The Big Irishman loves all things western and outdoorsy. I’m fairly certain that in a past life he was a roo n’ too n’ cowboy. I might add that John Wayne is his personal hero.
H e r e ’ s P r o o f !
Such a sweet picture. My personal favorite.
A very unique relationship.

I think this is a cowgirl. Notice the scarf.

Okay, Big Irishman. Are we friends again? Good. Now can you clean the garage?
