Twelfth Annual Fundraiser Draws Many Familiar Faces AND New Friends

The Sports Legends Reunion (SLR) and High Hopes Tournament weekend was another success due to the participants. The 138 members of the audience was composed of about 40% who have attended previous SLR providing an opportunity to meet and mingle with approximately ���¿UVW� WLPH�SHRSOH�� SHRSOH��who share the same interest as the foundation.

Each year the planning committees do yeoman’s work seeking sponsors, auction items, and volunteers. Board members serving on the committees are listed below.

Boy have we been busy since the last newsletter. We held the Sports Legends Reunion banquet, the High Hopes Tournament, and UDIÀHG� RII� %RER� %UD\WRQ¶V� ERDW�donated by Eileen Brayton.:H� ORVW� RXU� FDSDEOH� RI¿FH�

manager Laura Taylor to a promising job at the prosecuting

DWWRUQH\¶V� RI¿FH�� :H� MXVW� UHSODFHG� KHU� FRXUWHV\� RI�Megan Bewley. To top it all off we have been trying to revamp our outdated web site. We are trying to serve the NLGV�RI�<DNLPD�LQ�D�SURGXFWLYH�ZD\��WKLV�FDQ�VRPHWLPHV�be a challenge with a nearly 100% volunteer group.

Please let me thank our contributors and our sponsors who place a tremendous amount of faith in WKH�3DUNHU�<RXWK�DQG�6SRUWV�)RXQGDWLRQ��,�EHOLHYH�\RXU�trust is well placed. Recent Donation: Shaw and Sons Funeral Directors LQ� <DNLPD� DUH� KHOSLQJ� UDLVH� PRQH\� IRU� NLGV� VSRUWV�programs. 7KLV� LV� WKH� ¿UVW� \HDU� WKH\� SXW� WRJHWKHU� D�charity car show called Driving Down Memory Lane. They selected our foundation to receive the proceeds of the event to EHQH¿W�XQGHUSULYLOHJHG�NLGV�

Chairman of the event and a director of Shaw and Sons Funeral Home, Dan Williams stated, “But really it’s for the youth that can’t afford to play a certain sport or anything like that so we can step in.”

People were able to enjoy a family outing Saturday August 12th of kids games, giveaways, food and of course the car show.

was named as the recipient of the ����� 3DUNHU� 3DUWQHU� RI� WKH� <HDU��Alan is the Sports Director/Anchor for KIMA, the only local television station. Alan has been instrumental in covering the awarding of grants to youth programs.

Award is a $4,000.00 grant shared by a returning sophomore baseball SOD\HU� DQG� WKH� <9&� EDVHEDOO�program. Gerald Hein was selected as the 2017-18 recipient.

As a left-handed freshman SLWFKHU�IRU�<DNLPD�9DOOH\�&ROOHJH��Hein went 7-2 with a 2.4 earned run

average and struck out 82 batters. For his outstanding performance, he was named to both the First Team All-NWAC and All-Eastern Region baseball squads.
