From Father Mike Tix:

On Wednesday, July 1st at St. John’s in Vermillion, and Thursday, July 2nd at St. Mathias in Hampton, youth from our three parishes will be celebrating their First Communion. Unfortunately we are not able to celebrate First Communion at St. Mary in New Trier because of the current renovation project underway. St. Mary’s youth will be joining those from St. Mathias in Hampton. First Communion had been originally scheduled for the first weekend in May at the regularly scheduled weekend Masses at each of our three parishes, but the COVID outbreak resulted in that time being cancelled. It would be difficult because of seating limitations to incorporate the First Communion to our regularly scheduled weekend Masses even now, and it’s important for our young people to receive the Body and Blood of Christ. As our young people celebrate their First Communion, it’s good for all of us to think about the Eucharist we share. Given the COVID outbreak, we are more aware of our need to receive Communion and how this nour-ishes and strengthens us for the journey of life. I know that I’ve heard from many that one of the reasons the COVID outbreak has been hard with its suspending of Masses, has been not being able to receive Communion, and people being happy to receive the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus in Communion. All of this points to the reason the Second Vatican Council has called the Eucharist “summit and source of the Church’s life.”

Our congratulations to those who will receive Body and Blood of Jesus for the first time. Over their lifetime they will receive this manna from heaven many more times in ways that will nourish and strengthen them to become what they receive for the life of the world. Those who will receive their First Communion are: - Easton Alexon, Lydia Davidson, Kinsley Frandrup, Grady Gergen, Henry Hanson, Emma Lesher, Braeden Lohmann, Dutch Munson, Lizabeth Niederkorn, Logyn Otte, Grace Poepl, Patience Reinardy, Regan Reinardy, John Rother, Brooke Siebenaler, Ethan Simones, Matthew Storkamp, Parker Tchida, Alexander Van Slyke, Alexis Waltman, Cole Waltman, Gavin Werner, Harmon Wojahn, Ella Zgoda.

TRI PARISH PROJECTS UPDATE

New Trier Campaign Update At St. Mary’s there is an appeal underway for the church interior renovation taking place now, and that should be completed in October. Total cost of the project is $305,000. Current efforts to raise $130,000 are at 93% of its goal. Gifts are still welcome, and should be clearly marked, “St. Mary’s Church Renovation” then either placed in the Sunday collection or mailed to the parish office. A special word of thanks to those who have par-ticipated in this extra appeal.

Scam Alert . . . .Recently a parishioner received a text, supposedly from Father Mike, that he was at Children’s Hospital with a family who had a child ill with cancer. The text requested

the parishioner to purchase five $100 I-Tune gift cards, and later asked for the registration numbers from them to access the funds. The scam was reported to local law enforcement. Please know that Father Mike would never make this kind of request, or in this manner! If you receive this kind of request in his name, please call local law enforcement before replying back to this or a similar kind of text or email request. If you ever have any question or concern about an electronic communication from Father Mike, please call him directly to avoid this kind of scam.

Have you ever felt like that about something in your life that represented real failure or pain or just some big mistake you made? Do you believe you can actually change your life? Romans 12:1-2 tells us that we can… Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. The very first step toward change is to believe that you can. You don’t have to stay the way you are because God is a God of change and transformation. He can bring change to your life and bring the best out of you. #createpositivechangebymikefenton The next meeting is scheduled for Aug 04.2020, hopefully things will have come back to normal or almost normal.

New 1st Grade Teacher We are excited to announce our new 1st Grade Teacher Miss Annie Klecker! Miss Klecker is a recent graduate of UW-Eau Claire with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Language Arts. She holds a MN K-6 Teaching License. Miss Klecker grew up in Oakdale attending St. Peter Catholic School in North St. Paul for PreK-8th Grade. Her favorite thing to do is to spend time with her nieces and her

nephew when he is born in August! She is most excited to be a teacher to make a positive impact in her students’ lives. Please join us in welcoming Miss Klecker to the SJB Family!

Welcome from our New Principal Dear St. John the Baptist community, I am filled with excitement and honor to write to you as the new principal of St. John the Baptist Catholic school. Over the past few weeks, I have seen the impressive work your school has been doing. While I have much to learn about you, I see evidence of teachers and community members who have long been committed to the success of St. John the Baptist. I recognize the energy of your new community members and your work to cultivate an identity as a leader in STEM and personalized education. I am thrilled to join your community.

My past eleven years have been spent as a teacher and principal in Catholic schools in Oakland, California, Minneapolis and West St. Paul. Catholic schools hold one of the dearest places in my heart. Our commitment to educate students in excellence, faith, and service, and our tight knit communities place students on a trajectory to success at an early age.

I am only weeks from completing my second masters degree, in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of St. Thomas. I live with my incredible wife, Jessica, and our three dogs, Monster, Kirby and Squirt. I am an avid reader and love to hike our beautiful state parks. I desperately miss playing hockey during this crisis. I hope to meet you all in person soon and will work with Father Tix to find the best ways to make that happen in a safe way.

Mr. Paul Dieltz
