WHEN DID CHEESECAKE FIRST APPEAR? Cheesecake first appeared in Greece at
least 2,000 years ago and was originally made with cottage cheese.
EVELYN OVERTON By the 1950s, when Evelyn Overton
began making cheesecake in her basement in Detroit, cream cheese was the main ingredient. Evelyn's cheesecakes proved so popular with her friends and at bake sales that she and her husband, Oscar, started a bakery business.
THE CHEESECAKE FACTORY In 1975, the bakery outgrew its
quarters and moved into a larger facility in Woodland Hills, and David Overton, the Overtons' son, relocated to Los Angeles to work for the business full-time.
