SigmaQ technology represents a significant advance over currently available modalities for the controlled, effective and side effect free recruitment and re-education of deep-seated and laterally dispersed muscle groups

The essence of the technology is an innovative micro-gating process initiating muscular contraction and motor neuron nerve activity (similar to kindling) via topically applied electrode / sensors, in a way which effectively by-passes the sensory nervous system

It is therefore quite distinct from the older Faradic and / or Galvanic systems which deliver high energy charges and which are unable to discriminate between sensory and motor neurones, such that effective application is severely restricted by the patient’s pain threshold

SigmaQ successfully bypasses the sensory nervous system by using sophisticated electronic gating and switching to deliver, instead of a single large charge, a series, or ‘train’, of discreet micro-charges at up to 30,000 charges a second - a rate of delivery which the sensory nerves cannot recognise

Once a series of micro-charges have been delivered into the skin and underlying tissues, the switching system breaks the circuit so that there is no return path for the sub-dermal charge. It therefore dissipates (and effectively earths itself) via the path of least resistance, i.e. surrounding muscle tissue and associated motor neurones

The result is a profound, yet controlled, initiation of muscle activity with little, if any, stimulation of the sensory nerves, and with none of the ‘pins and needles’ that are an inevitable component of the older and now out-dated systems

SigmaQ technology combines its unique micro-gating with a controlled variable frequency to penetrate the epidermis and underlying dermis to give an extremely accurate measure of the depth and impedance of the skin tissue

This information is relayed back to the pulse controller at the heart of the system such that the amount and frequency of charged packet energy is delivered within a unique bio-feedback loop consistent with optimal muscle and motor neurone activation, in real time

1985

Dr Roberto Ciaff decided to research and develop SigmaQ to look at how it could build and re-educate muscles.

1993

The first prototype of the dry unit called ‘INTS Bio Nuropulse’ was developed. This product was later called Bioneuro.

1998

Development of deep water treatment. Later to be called Aquaneuro.

1999

The application for the patent was successful.

2002

Footballer Jamie Brookes of Oxford United was treated using SigmaQ following his diagnosis of Guillain–Barré syndrome.

2005

Mick Fitzgerald’s rehabilitation following a fall at Market Rasen. Mick used the Aquaneuro to speed up the injury recovery process when he broke his neck in two places.

2006

SigmaQ help footballers recover from injury at the German World Cup.

2009

Bioneuro launches as a commercial product in the UK and is used by sports therapists.

2012

The Aquaneuro gains CE Medical approval and launches as a commercial product for pain management, sports injury recovery and overall wellbeing.
