As the old saying goes, “Never put off until tomorrow what should be done today.” Obviously, everyone procrastinates sometimes. We avoid arduous and laborious work and look for distractions (which are abundantly available nowadays). Fortunately, it is possible to overcome procrastination. Just remember: DO NOT WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW

Procrastination is not facing the reality. Procrastination is being unable to start.

It is coordinating you clothes. It is sharpening your pencil.

It is wasting time getting to work.

It is jumping from an idea to another.

It is surfing the Internet. It is being unable to stop surfing the Internet.

It is smoking. It is drinking.

Procrastination is daydreaming.

Procrastination is doodling.

It is taking a nap. It is waiting for decision.

It is doing several things at once,

Therefore, getting none done.

Tips to Fight Procrastination

1.Do not be afraid of big projects In order to avoid procrastination, break a big project into smaller parts. After separating them, start with the one that you hate the most, and leave the easy parts for later.

2.Get rid of distractions

Social media seems like the major distractor. Sometimes, we spend more time on social media than our tasks. That’s why we have so many half-completed projects.

3.Be responsible

We have to understand our ability and make sure that everything starts and ends with us. In addition, we can set a goal and make a list to keep ourselves on track.

4.Overcome fatigue

Benjamin Franklin said, "Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” We should never press the snooze button in the morning and try to get up at the first sound of the alarm!

Tiny Wisdom:

Actions speak louder than words!

Remember when your parents keep telling you to drink milk because it’s healthy and that it’s the best way to boost your height? Apparently this time our parents maybe wrong. Milk may contain some calcium, but according to Harvard School of Public Health, it is not only, or even the best, source of calcium. Calcium may helps build bones, helps slow the loss of bones, lowers the risk of osteoporosis and colon cancer, but consuming a large amount of it can increase your chance of getting prostate and ovarian cancers. Dairy products also contain high saturated fat and retinol (vitamin A), which in a large amount can weaken your bones. Furthermore, 90-95% of Asians are allergic to milk or more commonly known as lactose intolerant. Lactose intolerance happens when the human body does not contain Lactase, which is necessary for digesting Lactose, the main carbohydrate in milk and without it can cause bloating, flatulence, cramps and nausea. If the symptom is not obvious enough, you might be lactose intolerant and not even know it. Then why did we grow up hearing such things everywhere? The dairy industry is worth at least $70 billion dollars in the US alone. US Food and Drug Administrator (FDA) is the owner of that food pyramid we grow up with. It suggests 2-3 servings of dairy products per day, claiming that they are the sole source of calcium. With the immense amount of money, campaigns are launched everywhere persuading people that milk is indeed healthy for you, leaving out the fact that to 65% of the population who are lactose intolerant, it maybe not. Despite the high probability, you, however, might be one of the lucky ones who are not lactose intolerant. Enjoy your cheesecake, chocolate ice cream and hot milk because milk, unfortunately, is not for everyone.

L-E-T-S-G-O… LET’S GO WOLVES!

Is there anyone out there who loves energetic activities? Who is not eager to play sports, but rather to “cheer” for the players? If you are someone like that, then you might be interested in Cheerleading.

The origin of cheerleading is often tied with the very first college American Football game in the United States. During the game, which was held between Princeton and Rutgers in 1869, people were encouraged to yell unified chants to support their team. Believe it or not, cheerleading started out as an all-male activity. A “pep club” was organized where members would lead cheers. It eventually led to the addition of physical techniques and stunts to arouse enthusiasm among the audience. During the 1940s, many male university students left the country to fight in World War II, so female students got the chance to participate in cheerleading. Today, 90% of the world’s cheerleaders are women.

Wendy!Lee!Editor!

In 2012, TCS finally has its own cheerleading squad. It’s a wonderful team of nine lovely girls and a passionate coach! The cheerleading team made their first appearance at a U19 basketball game in January. Visit some of our TCIS home games and you’ll see the cheerleaders jumping around doing incredible stunts and shouting ebullient cheers. It definitely brings enthusiasm and liveliness to the game!

The Howl was lucky enough to chat with some cheerleaders. When asked what makes her interested in cheerleading, Milk Nakaurai, the flyer of the team, answered, “It is a good chance for me to show my school spirit. I love being able to dance and cheer for the team.”

Milk also added that through cheerleading she has learned to work with others and to trust her teammates. Another cheerleader, Jell Subhirungul, commented that, although it requires a lot of practice, cheerleading is not tiring because they are always motivated to think of new cheers and dance moves.

Personally, I find that I am very impressed by the recently established cheerleading team. It takes a lot of hard work and courage to do what the girls are doing today. Cheerleading is not just a performance, but also a way for the team to interact with the audience and fire up the school spirit among them. Also, these girls are taking the first step in what we hope will become a long, successful tradition in TCIS.

So if you have the chance, come to one of our home games. Not only will you be watching another awesome TCIS sporting event, you will also be witnessing the start of something truly amazing. Nothing brings life to a game as well as a cheerleading team! !

It is finally here! The third issue of The Howl is finally out. I apologize

for the delay. Starting a newspaper and running it is not an easy task, but I am not complaining. It was certainly a very busy time for students and teachers alike! Having to deal with looming deadlines in the midst of other school projects (and some cases of chronic procrastination) caused this issue to be published a bit later than usual, but at least it got done, and that's what matters! We'd like thank all our reporters, photographers, and editors for all the hard work they've put in, and especially Mr. Ted for taking his time to revise all our articles. !

From THE HOWL Our goal from the start for establishing a school-wide newspaper was to provide a medium of communication between different groups in TCIS, and we cannot fulfill our duty without your help! We aim to provide the student body with a sense of cohesiveness and news related to our school, while at the same time, we encourage all of you to communicate with us with your opinions and ideas you may want to share. With this goal in mind, we want all our readers to support us in any way they can, whether by giving us suggestions, opinions, or sponsoring our printing costs through advertisements. Remember, we're here for you, the students! Grammy & Rach Editors-In-Chief of The Howl

Sports Day By: Han Jong Won Editor ! The annual high school sports day swiftly made everyone’s day pass by with excitement, thrill, and spirit! As the early- morning Chinese New Year celebration warmed up people’s spirits, the spirits of the high school students were driven to further excitement since it was also Sports Day! Right after the curtains were closed after the CNY celebration, people went back to where they were supposed to be. The high schoolers also went back to their homerooms and had to calm their pumped up spirits, as they were waiting for the teachers to set up the fields and organize the teams. When it was 10 o’clock, we could see groups of people swarming down the HS building ready to kick some butt. Divided into colors, people found their ways to the basketball court, volleyball court, and the soccer field. Some colors felt proud as they dominated the court and field over the other colors, some came to a really close tie, and other colors had to droop their shoulders because of their loss. After the teams went head to head with the three sports mentioned above, they participated in a water relay. Followed by Tug of War and photo taking session, the day has come to an end. Despite the fun everyone had, there have been many new suggestions that could help improve the sports day next year. Grammy, who has experienced 4 years of the high school sports day, had some really intriguing ideas that could contribute to the improvements of next year’s sports day. He stated that, “Sports Day next year needs... 1. More sports: hockey, badminton, chairball, foursquare, dragonball (before everyone forgets how to play them!) Sign up sheets for sports will also really help with the organization. 2. A full day! We can fit all the sports I mentioned in if we had a full day of sports, and if there is more dedication to arranging the schedule (hint: boys and girls don't have to play at the same time, and each color can be in more than one place at once!) 3. Less lame activities. What happened to all the originality? Water relays get stale the second time you play them. And these activities don't have to take up 3 hours... just an hour or so would be enough, to get the feel of garnering enough extra points to win. 4. Group meeting and planning before the big day. It's supposed to be a bonding time for HS students, like Spirit Week! Get people's spirits up by rallies, cheers, team names, headquarters, etc! 5. Points for cheering, participation, and enthusiasm. One more reason why people should participate and not just skip school because they feel it is too tiring to run around the whole day.” Cliff Huang, another senior, also pointed out that the school should have one sports day per semester rather than having it one time a year. The last point that was pointed out by many people was that the event date should be announced earlier and on a better date. Many people could have noticed that there were quite a few people missing on the day. There could’ve been many reasons, but the three main reasons were ROTC, Chiang Mai Basketball trip, and the upcoming break. Many seniors and juniors, particularly males, had to leave for the military trip and had to chance to rejoice the day with their friends. Another reason people couldn’t make it was because of the basketball trip they had to attend. The last reason was that because the holiday was coming up, people already left for their home countries or for vacation…

! It’s February! We do know that February has been celebrated as a month of romance. It is to be said that Valentine’s Day is a romantic day to confess your love. Love is one of the most delicate emotions that can strike a person. Sometimes if you love someone, confessing to her/him what you really feel can be very difficult. A lot of times, you are overcome by your nerves; sometimes, you run out of things to say. What you need is hope, courage and some luck to be able to deliver your news to her/him, flawlessly and in the most natural way possible. One thing that you really have to be ready for is how you will respond if she says yes or if she says no. It is always best to tell her personally. Confessing online or by text message is highly discouraged.

Legend has it that Valentine was a priest who served during third century Rome. There was an Emperor at that time by the name of Claudius II. Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those that were married. With this thought in mind he outlawed marriage for young men in hopes of building a stronger military base. Supposedly, Valentine, decided this announcement just wasn't fair and chose to marry young couples secretly. When Emperor Claudius II found out about Valentine's actions he had him put to death.

Another legend has it that Valentine was an imprisoned man who fell in love with his jailor's daughter. Before he was put to death he sent the first 'valentine' himself when he wrote her a letter and signed it 'Your Valentine', words still used on cards today.
