Forthcoming Events
CS & S Fordell Firs Activity Day CS Outdoor 5-a-side Football A day out at Fordell Firs Activity Centre is being planned
for 24th September, which will include a variety of 6
different activities during the day. These may include,
abseiling, Zip Line, Jacobs Ladder, King Swing, Low Ropes
Course, Archery or maybe even Crate climbing! The event
will run for the full day from 10am – 4pm at a cost of £15
per participant.
We need to secure our date for the centre and provide

and 8.30pm.
Companies can choose to enter as a team or we can
make composite teams on the day which would allow for
all those interested to join in.

Royal Highland Show Messengers JS Fun Golf Event Once again we have been invited to provide
messengers to assist at the Royal Highland Show
between Thursdays 22nd and Saturday 24th June
2017.
Messengers must be 13+ to attend and will be
provided food/drinks vouchers for the duration.
Entry forms are on the website places are limited so
please ensure you respond promptly on this one.

Numbers are restricted and will be given on a first
come basis.
A fun mini golf event has been planned and we invite all
junior section members to come along. The event will
take place at Adventure Golf Island in Dunfermline on
Saturday 27th May 2017.
The venue has an indoor and outdoor 18 hole mini golf
courses, so no matter the weather this event will go
ahead.
This is a fun day out so no experience required.
Cost £3 per child
Please ensure each child has a completed consent form
before participating in the event.
Transport should be arranged by the Company
Leaders/Parents, who can also join in the fun if they wish
at a cost of £7.50.
Free and secure parking is available onsite.

CS & Seniors Athletics CS & Seniors Kayaking Course This sessions Athletics Event takes place slightly
earlier than normal and will be held on Monday 5th
June 2017 with a start time of 6.30pm at Pinkie
Playing Fields in Musselburgh.

The course consists of three sessions and they will take
place at Forth Canoe Club, Harrison Road, Edinburgh,
EH11 1HU on Tuesday 13th, 20th & 27th June 2017,
from 6.15pm to 8.15pm.
The course is designed to introduce and develop personal
skills, and will end in a British Canoeing Paddlepower
Start or Passport assessment.
The cost of the course is £20. The cost includes: three 2
hour sessions, a British Canoeing certificate, and use of
paddlesport equipment.

Forthcoming Training
Canoeing/Kayaking Weekend – For Seniors & Leaders Primarily to develop Members & Leaders personal paddling skills, and secondly, to give Members & Leaders the
opportunity to gain BC awards & in-house training.
Open to Seniors (S4-S6) and Leaders, but may be open to P7-S3 as well.
Weekend of 24-26 June 2016, Craggan Outdoor Centre

Queens Badge Information Queen's Badge - Completing Candidates
As you plan for Parent's Night; a reminder that, if you have Boys completing Queen's Badge this session, you need to
apply to Carronvale for the Badge using the Queen's Badge application form. This form must be countersigned by one
of the Advanced Awards Advisers (Andy Ralston or Lindsay Stein), or the Queen's Badge Organizer (Kenny Young).
If you have not already done so, in order to save postal delays, if you are not able to have this done in person, please
complete the form, and send it along with a stamped envelope and cheque (payable to "The Boys' Brigade") to your
adviser.
There are a few pieces of work outstanding in order for candidates to complete. Your adviser is aware of requirements,
and these should be completed and verified at the earliest opportunity; and arrangements made with your adviser to
have the book and form signed off.
The annual Certificate Presentation will take place in Edinburgh on the evening of Wednesday 7th June. Full details will
be provided nearer the time.
Queen's Badge - New Registrations
If not already done so, please apply as soon as possible for the President's Badge. The application form is submitted to
Carronvale, and requires to be countersigned by Alan Summers.
A Battalion Queen's Badge Candidates' Meeting will be arranged in May. This is open to all new and existing Queen's
Badge Candidates. New Candidates should have had the opportunity to review the requirements prior to attendance.
What have we been doing?
Anchors & Juniors take Flight On Sunday 14th May the Annual Anchor and Juniors Activity and Service took place and they had a great day out at
The National Museum of Flight. With over 120 children attending the afternoon involved lots of activities and
interaction for the children and Rev Ian Gilmour incorporated a perfect service for the afternoon.
It looks like all had a great day and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Thanks to all the leaders, parents and staff who assisted on the day.

Beating Retreat 60th Anniversary A massive thanks must go to all the bands, guests, leaders and young members who came along to assist, participate
and attend the Beating Retreat 60th Anniversary on Saturday 6th May 2017.
The evening began for the guests with an Anniversary Reception hosted by the Governor of Edinburgh Castle, Major
General M L Ridell-Webster CBE DSO in The Great Hall no less, whilst the bands held a short performance at Parliament
Square before parading upto Edinburgh Castle for the main event iteself on the Castle Esplanade, drawing a crowd of
approximately 500 spectators.
There were 150 musicians of all ages from across Scotland who played at Edinburgh Castle. The event featured the
Massed Pipes & Drums, Central Band of The Boys' Brigade, 3rd Johnstone Brigade Band, and 2nd Port Glasgow BB
Band.
The bands performed for Major General M L Riddell-Webster CBE DSO, Governor of Edinburgh Castle; and Diane &
Alex Mackie, Edinburgh Risk Management General Ltd.
This event was organised by The Boys’ Brigade – Edinburgh, Leith & District Battalion in partnership with Edinburgh Risk
Management General Ltd.

Craggan Bookings Book now for 2018
The 2018 calendar is already filling up with more requests coming in daily, if your company wishes to book for 2018 it
is advised that you make your provisional bookings now. As always dates are offered on a first come basis and will not
be held based on a previous year.

Heart and Soul – Helpers Required Once again, Boys' Brigade Scotland has teamed up with Girls' Brigade Scotland to exhibit at the Heart and Soul
festival. It takes place on Sunday 21st May (2-6pm) in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh.
Boys' Brigade Scotland is looking for young people in the Battalion to be part of its team. If you have any young people
