MODERN SLAVERYDirected by: Thomas RobsahmTina Davis
Produced by: Margreth Olin
Slavery exists despite the fact that it is illegal everywhere. Today, there are more slaves in the world than at any given point before in history. Trafficking, child labour, sex slavery, debt slavery and child soldiers are among the most common forms of modern slavery. In the film we meet slaves from Uganda, India, Moldova, Cambodia and France. Why does slavery still exist and what will it take to finally get rid of it?
ECHOES OF WARDirected by: Joop van Wijk
Produced by: Joop van Wijk War and violence leave behind the dead, the wounded, the maimed, the victims and the witnesses. “Echoes of War” is a documentary with animated sequences about child survivors of wars and violent conflicts in Afghanistan, New York, Columbia and Sierra Leone who, having lost their father or mother, take us into their lives and share their memories, nightmares and dreams.
SPECIAL FLIGHTDirected by: Fernand Melgar
Produced by: ClimageWhile awaiting deportation from Switzerland, men are jailed. Although incarceration may last up to 24 months, deportation is announced without warning and its enforcement is imminent. Behind the closed prison doors, tension builds day by day. On one side there are deeply human wardens, and on the other immigrants at the end of their journeys, defeated by fear and stress. Relations of friendship and hate, respect and revolt are formed until the deportation is announced, which is experienced like a stab. Those who refuse to leave are handcuffed, tied up and forcibly put on a plane.
THE ACT OF KILLINGDirected by: Joshua OppenheimerProduced by: Signe Byrge Sørensen, Joshua Oppenheimer, Christine Cynn, Joram ten Brink, Michael Uwemedimo, Anne Köhncke, Torstein Grude
In a country where killers are celebrated as heroes, the filmmakers challenge unrepentant death squad leader Anwar Congo and his friends to dramatise their role in genocide. But their idea of being in a movie is not to provide testimony for a documentary: they want to be stars in their favourite film genres—gangster, western, musical. They write the scripts. They play themselves. And they play their victims. This is a cinematic fever dream, an unsettling journey deep into the imaginations of mass-murderers and the shockingly banal regime of corruption and impunity they inhabit.
THE LOOK OF SILENCE Directed by: Joshua Oppenheimer
Produced by: Signe Byrge Sørensen
Through Joshua Oppenheimer’s work filming perpetrators of the Indonesian genocide, a family of survivors discovers how their son was murdered and the identity of the men who killed him. The youngest brother is determined to break the spell of silence and fear under which the survivors live, and so confronts the men responsible for his brother's murder – something unimaginable in a country where killers remain in power.
BURMA VJDirected by: Anders Østergaard
Produced by: Lise Lense-MøllerGoing beyond the occasional news clip from Burma, the acclaimed filmmaker, Anders Østergaard, brings us close to Burma’s video journalists who insist on keeping up the flow of news from their closed country despite risking torture and life in jail. Armed with small handycams they make their undercover reportages, smuggle the material out of the country, and broadcast back into Burma via satellite or offered as free usage for international media.

NO FIRE ZONEDirected by: Callum Macrae
Produced by: Zoe SaleWithout truth there can be no justice in Sri Lanka. No Fire Zone is an explicit and horrifying exposé of the final months of the 26-year-long Sri Lankan civil war told by the people who lived through it. Using unseen footage recorded by both the victims and perpetrators on mobile phones and small cameras, the film meticulously exposes some of the worst war crimes and crimes against humanity in recent times and becomes direct evidence of a war that was supposed to be conducted in secret.
