Our mandate:
OCHA is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework where each actor can contribute to the overall response effort.
OCHA's mission is to:
1. Mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies.2. Advocate the rights of people in need.3. Promote preparedness and prevention.4. Facilitate sustainable solutions.
The Humanitarian Data Exchange (HDX) is an open platform for sharing humanitarian data. The future of
HDX points to fast access to meaningful data and insightful analytics.
What is HDX?
We are working on three elements that will eventually combine into an integrated data platform.
Elements
The HDX repository, where data providers can upload their raw data spreadsheets for others to find and use. (AVAILABLE NOW)
HDX analytics, a database of high-value data that can be compared across countries and crises, with tools for analysis and visualisation. (BEING DEVELOPED)
Standards to share humanitarian data through the use of a consensus Humanitarian Exchange Language. (HXL ALPHA STANDARD AVAILABLE SOON)

HDX Features
HDX enables registered organizations to share their data quickly, intuitively, and securely. Over 40 organizations have already registered through the site.
Contribute
We will introduce a search-based navigation that helps users find exactly what they are looking for.
Search
Users will be able to browse the entire HDX Collection by location, topic or organization.
Browse
Country pages will include a number of analytics and datasets that can be customized for local audiences. Crisis specific and regional pages will be introduced over time.

These visuals can be customized and downloaded into reports.

Indicators can be selected for comparison and visualized in maps or charts.

Coming SoonHDX Data LabsHDX will set up a Data Lab in Nairobi, Kenya to offer data services to humanitarian partners. Services will include data cleaning and analysis, and integrating data systems with the HDX platform.
There are four ways to collaborate:
• Share Data: Register your organization and start sharing data with the community.
• Volunteer: Work with the HDX team on special projects. If you are a data scientist, web-developer, or data geek, send us an email at [email protected]
