Child is referred to specialeducation because district hasreason to believe he/she has adisability and may need specialeducation services. No need toexhaust response-to-interventiontiers.
Identify all appropriate disabilitycategories revealed byassessments. The child is eligiblefor special education only if atleast one disability adverselyaffects educational performance.
The school's comprehensiveevaluation plan
assesses the child in all areas ofsuspected disability. Parents can
disagree and request anindependent educational
evaluation at district expense.
IEP Team meets to discuss allassessments, write present levels
of academic achievementand functional
performance, draft goals,determine related services andaccommodations to help meet
the goals.
The team decides onplacement. This is a serviceand NOT a prepackaged class.Child must be educated in theleast restrictiveenvironment with a continuumof services provided.

Re-EvaluateThe child is re-evaluated (re-
