AbstractData is the lifeblood of today’s organizations, and the effective and efficient management of data is considered an integral part of organizational strategy. Successful organizations should collect high quality data which will lead to high quality of information. For a successful and effective managerial decision making, it is necessary to provide accurate, timely and relevant information to decision makers. Management Information System is type of information systems that take internal data from the system and summarized it to meaningful and useful forms as management reports to use in managerial decision making. Management information system improves information quality and subsequently affects on managerial decision-making. This research provides a better and clearer understanding of technology adoption and information system success in managerial decision making by reviewing current literature. The expected outcome of this study is propose integrated model for MIS and managerial decision making.
Main Point
To provide a better and clearer understanding of technology adoption and information system success in managerial decision making.
Main Objective
The expected outcome of this study is to propose integrated model for management Information systems and managerial decision making.
What is Management Information Systems?
MIS is define as type of information systems that
transform data to information and summarized the
information to Meaningful and useful forms as
management reports to use it in managerial decision
making. Fig 1 illustrates this definition
Relationship between MIS and Decision Making
Technology Acceptance Model Technology Acceptance Model: Fred Davis (1989)
Definition: The technology acceptance model (TAM) is an information systems theory that models how users come to accept and use a technology.
Perceived ease of use
Perceived usefulness
IS Success Model IS Success Model: 6 variables
MIS quality Information quality Top management support Perceived use (change to usefulness) Decision maker’s satisfaction Quality of managerial decision making
Summary of Main Points MIS Quality Measures: One of the most studied dimensions of IS success is system quality. It refers to measures of the information processing system itself (DeLone & McLean, 1992).
Ease of use
Flexibility
Response time
Reliability
Summary of Main Points: cont’d Information Quality Measures:
Accuracy
Completeness
Conciseness
Consistency
Relevance
Timeliness
Quantity of information
Accessibility
Understandability
Summary of Main Points: cont’d Top Management Support Measures:
Definition: Top management support of information systems refers to the degree to which top managementunderstands the importance of the IS function andthe extent to which it is involved in IS activities
There is a direct relationship between top management support and success of MIS systems.
Summary of Main Points: cont’d Decision Makers Satisfaction Measures:
Definition: Decision makers satisfaction is define as the degree to which a decision makers believe that theMIS and the information (reports) available to them meets their requirements.
System meets our expectation
Satisfied with the information
Summary of Main Points: cont’d Perceived Usefulness Measures:Definition: Perceived usefulness is defined as the degree to which a decision makers believes thatusing a particular system would enhance decision making.
Enables Decision makers to: Accomplish tasks more quickly Enhances effectiveness of job Improves job performance Improve job productivity
Findings MIS has great contribution to increased competitiveness and effectiveness
of managers in decision-making process and solve different problems that appeared in managing an organization.
MIS produces information products that support many of the day-to-day decision-making needs of managers and business professionals.
Reports, displays, and responses produced by MIS provide information that decision makers have specified in advance as adequately meeting their information needs.
A management information system comprises computer-based processing that provide useful, complete, and timely information.
Findings cont’dGood decision making requires quality data and timely information;
an MIS is specifically designed to provide information on a timely basis.
MIS provides different types of information based on users’ need to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
Effective use of information systems in management decision making gives power to managers and help organization succeed.
There is strong relation between management information systems and managerial decision making process.
MethodsMethods used in this study are:

Conclusion
MIS differ from regular information systems because the
primary objectives of these systems are to analyze other
systems dealing with the operational activities in the
organization. In this way, MIS is a subset of the overall
planning and control activities covering the application of
human technologies and procedures of the organization.
Within the field of scientific management, MIS adaption
provides the best support to managerial decision making.
Critique the article selected for review is: The Impact of ManagementInformation Systems Adoption in Managerial Decision Making by Yaser Hasan Al-Mamary, Alina Shamsuddin, & Nor Aziati. I am have learned a lot from this article since I am currently studying Information systems management. The article emphasizes that for a successful and effective managerial decision making, it is necessary to provide accurate, timely and relevant information to decision makers. The author uses statistical data and cited from various literatures to emphasize the impact of MIS adaption by decision makers. I didn’t find this article to be bias in any way but objective in its views with well defined points. the author identify one problem which I strongly agree with that the existing IS success model only focus on technology. Therefore, there is need to design and develop such an evaluation model which focus both on technology and management that can be used by managers.
Value to OB Literature
In reference to organizational behavior, this study will contribute to a
better understanding of what a management information system is
and its relationship to quality decision making. Top managers referred
to as decision makers will appreciate MIS systems which will improve
their effective managerial decision making. Overall This research will
provides a better and clearer understanding of technology adoption
and information system success in managerial decision making.
