Visit the Bishops website below to learn more. http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/prayers-and-devotions/ eucharistic-devotion/index.cfm The importance of Eucharistic Adoration is shown in the fact that the Church has a ritual that regulates it: the Rite of Eucharistic Exposition and Benediction. This is an extension of the adoration of the Blessed Sacra- ment which occurs in every Mass: "Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the sup- per of the Lamb”. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament flows from the sacrifice of the Mass and serves to deepen our hunger for Communion with Christ and the rest of the Church. The Rite concludes with the or- dained minister blessing the faithful with the Blessed Sacrament. Some important prayers that are used during this rite include the Anima Christi (en español) and the Tantum Ergo. Holy hours are the Roman Catholic devotional tradition of spending an hour in Eucharistic Adoration in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. The bishops have created a variety of holy hours that focus our prayer to Jesus Christ on peace, life, vocations, and other topics that are at the heart of the life of the Church and the world. St. Patrick (StP) St. Michael (StM) St. Januarius (StJ) St. Theresa (StT)

March 10th, 2019 First Sunday of Lent

Reading I: Deuteronomy 26:4-10 God will continue to protect and provide for the people.

Reading II: Romans 10:8-13 We are called upon to bear witness to God’s saving deed of raising Christ and will save us along with him.

Gospel: Luke 4:1-13 Jesus faces temptation. Reading I: Genesis 15:5-12, 17-18 Reading II: Philippians 3:17-4:1 Gospel: Luke 9:28b-36

March 10th, 2019 1st Sunday of Lent Introduction Trust. Trouble. Temptation. The Israelites remembered and trusted in God’s con-stant, guiding presence and gave back to God the first fruits of the land. The psalmist trusted God would be present in times of trouble. Jesus survived tempta-tion in the desert, only by trusting in God. In whom or in what do we place our trust when we are troubled and tempted?

Your Catholic IQ: Morality is a) a list of dos and

don’ts or b) having right relationships (with God &

others)? “b” is correct. When we say yes to God, we are

doing His Will, building the Kingdom of God. God in-

vites all to enter the Kingdom by living in love, seeking

peace and making others feel welcomed. Thanks for do-

ing your part in building the Kingdom here on Earth!

Lent is a time when we express sorrow for the ways we

have failed to be Kingdom builders. Remove the shroud

that is sin through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. A

diocesan wide Day of Penance & Reconciliation is set for

3/13. See the “Schedule of Events” for locations and

times. If you work out of the parish boundaries, check

with the Church in that location for times. Sacraments

are our opportunity to receive God’s grace and love.

Who doesn’t need more of that?

Lent (lente) means slowly. Slowly will we take stock of

ourselves? Will we join Jesus in the desert through our

prayers, almsgiving and fasting? It is unnatural to deny

ourselves that in which we find pleasure. By doing so,

who will win? Will we give in to temptations, or give

ourselves over to God?

Teens/gamers: Play a game, feed the world? That is what you can do at www.freerice.com For every correct answer in an array of educational categories, 10 grains of rice will be distributed by the World Food Program, an organization that also focuses on self-reliance and emer-gency preparedness in an effort to battle hunger. Sup-port of Operation Rice Bowl, our way of practicing soli-darity with the poor in developing countries is also sug-gested.

Women’s Retreat on May 31-June 2, 2019 “Our Spiritual Journey” Share in the Journey this year at Notre Dame Retreat House.

Hear the stories from scripture which offer words of encouragement along our personal journeys. Walk Pray and Talk with Jesus as you journey through the retreat weekend. “Always remember this: life is a journey. It is a Path, a journey to meet Jesus. At the end, and forever. "Pope Francis For more information, please call Notre Dame Re-treat House at 585-394-5700!!!!
