these. The prize money puts this comp into an upper bracket so the condi-
tions must be met.
So far this year there has been 10 paintings which have had to be re-strung. Please make sure that you have your paintings ready to be hung,- a frame that is not damaged, and the canvas edges clean, tidy, or painted. Damaged or untidy will not
be hung.

This year our BIG Art
Awards have been moved to April so that artists have a better chance of entering other competitions with-out worrying about ‘Closing’ and ‘Bring-in’
dates clashing. As it has been, a major-ity of Comps seem to be around the June time of the year. If not the com-petition itself, the vari-
ous dates for them. Of course this is a trial for this year and we will see what the outcome
is. In previous years we have had members complaining about the various dates all around the same time so the committee has taken the initiative to change which I hope members
will be happy with. Entry forms are at the front desk and on our
Web site. There will be a box at the front desk to place
the completed entry forms in. Please re-member that once you have entered, there will be no chance of altering it.(Title, Price,
etc). The ‘BIG Art Award’ is our big yearly competi-tion and completely different to our normal monthly exhibitions so please go through the conditions which you will find differ to some of our normal condi-tions, (Size, Categories, etc), and there will be
While on the subject of Duty,
if there are members who
can help and would like to
go on an Emergency Stand-
by for Roster Duty which is
only for as it says, in an
emergency , please contact
the Gallery and ask to be
put on the list.
Some members don’t seem
to realize that when they
hang paintings in an exhibi-
tion , no matter how many,
by doing this they have
made a commitment to do a
Roster Duty. It’s not a case
of-- “I’ll put my name down
and I can pull out if I want
to”. That is a very selfish
way. of thinking.
Once your name is on the
Roster, unless there are cir-
cumstances that really pre-
vent you, you will be asked
to pay $20, which is the
same as those who don’t do
a duty, pay,
Barbra Elvin
Barbra will be starting a
new Oil / Acrylic class which can
take in drawing as
well. The classes will be starting
from: Tuesday April 5th.
This is an afternoon class from 1pm -- 4pm.
Barbra has been teaching art, drawing and painting, for many
years and has a style of her own which you will see on her site but as she says, she endeavors to bring out the style of the student
she is teaching.
A big welcome to Barbra Elvin

== Otto Schmidinger == Otto thought a little bit of
bragging might be in order, and I think you will all have to
agree. He entered the “Grover’ art prize and yes, he has made
the finals. He says he doesn’t expect to
win, but Hey ! A little bit of positivity goes a long, long way. Fingers crossed Otto.

time to time...we all need it! The
AGM is fast approaching and ALL
positions will be vacated so if
you’re interested in a role please
put up your hand! On a note of
caution: there is NO agreement for
us to park in the park outside the
gallery at any time ever….what
does that mean? Well I do my best
to sweet talk any parking officers
who come past but that will only
work for so long so if you must park
there, remember, you do so at your
own risk and the faster the better.
We do not want you getting
booked.
Drum roll...are you ready for the
BIG ART awards? This is the big-
gest event of our calendar year and
we are so looking forward to the
opening night so please read all
the condition carefully and I look
forward to seeing you all frocked
up! Finally remember “There's no
retirement for an artist, it's your way of
living so there's no end to it.”Henry

Dear Members,
I hope this edition finds you safe,
well and with paint under your
nails! 2016 has gotten underway
with a flying start with much to re-
port. Our sustainability audit docu-
mentation is now submitted and
we await the out come from the
council so many thanks to those
who drove this including Harry Ellis
and Lyn Price. Council has been
meeting more regularly with us and
we have an agreement now that
they will replace the electrical
boxes and safety switches and we
hope the floor at the main Gallery
entrance. We are very grateful for
this closer relationship and we see
this as strategically important to
the Society moving forward. The

Committee led by Lynne Astill held
a VIP cocktail function last month
which saw a number of Councilors
in attendance and local apartment
owners. Several promising leads
emerged for our artists and we will
keep you posted on the outcomes.
We intend to hold these once every
few months to engage with local
businesses and increase aware-
ness of our fabulous society. On
that note I will share with you a
thought I had this week— we have a
wonderful society and we get it all
for a membership which costs on
average less than $1.45 per week
or $6.50 per month...now that is
value for money! Can I add the
Committee works very hard along
with the sub committees such as
David Ladley’s workshops, Leanne
Manns and the hanging committee
who are putting on great shows
month after month, Jim McBride

local papers and anywhere he can
find including radio and we all ap-

and plenty of water with you. It is an enjoyable day out in the open air amongst the birds, fly’s, beatles etc. but most of all, you’re out in the fresh air with friends who can make suggestions if you get
stuck with your painting. There will be a MailChimp email going out a few days previous, re-minding you of where we will be ‘escaping’ to, the sea or the hills and where possible there will be a
map showing the point of interest.
Wednesday the 13th of April is next,
then the following month will be the Wednesday 11th of May.
The ‘Escape Artists” have a monthly painting get-together on
the second Wednesday of the
month. Have you noticed somewhere while you have been driving around, and said to yourself, “That would make a nice painting”. Well now! Let Bob Murphy Know of it, and all going
well we could all ‘Plein Air’ it Just

tic painting medium.
We have regular Classes every week, Monday Tuesday, Wednes-day, Thursday, and “Catswingers” of a Friday. All classes are able to ac-cept new pupils at most times so
why just paint ? Become an artist.
But did you know that we have a ‘Pastel Class’ on the first Saturday morning of the month. Louise Corke is a Master Pastelist who belongs to the Australian Pastel Association and tutors this class. Pastel was a forgotten medium but
is coming back like wild-fire. Saturday afternoon 1pm - 3pm Louise organizes a Demonstration with a Master Pastelist from the Pastel Association to demonstrate their method of painting,, how, and why. For a very small fee you can attend these demo’s and see for
. To book a Workshop: there is informa-
tion on the Notice Board. However your
name with a deposit (paid at the desk
with ‘Workshop’ on receipt). The re-
ceipt and your Phone number entered
on the Notice Board is the usual way.
All workshops must be paid in full (by
the cut off date) Any not paid by then
will loose their position and the list will
move up to include a person on stand
by who has paid a deposit.
This is the only fair way as most work-
shops are over booked.

At last the rain has given us a break and we have had some good Sundays which have proved to be very fruitful. It’s marvellous what a
sunny day will do. As long as the paintings are of a reasonable price to sell, you will
sell them. Which is better? Some money in your pocket or paintings stacked in the spare room and the garage. I
know which I would rather. The second Sunday of each month you have the chance to reduce your stack of paintings. All one has to do is reduce the prices and save the money for that holiday that you
have been promising yourself. So don’t forget the second Sunday of the month, from around 8am thru to about 3pm. We may even
have a sausage sizzle for lunch.
