The IDS Scholarship Committee, Trena Trusty, Rosie Springer, Francesca Levitt and Ruth Pelouch, met in early January to decide how to proceed with the program. Three universities (Purdue. IU and Ball State) will be the recipient universities in Indiana. Additional information will be available at the March meeting. Something new this year for IDS is the "IDS Lending Library". Over the years IDS has acquired an occasional book or journal pertinent to daffodils or gardening. With Sara Kinne's donation of some lovely books to IDS this past year, we are now organized enough now to start a lending library. The books can be signed out at a meeting and returned at the next meeting. The books will be available at the March meeting. And lastly, our Daffodil Show in April. We will be at two locations this year. IDS was pleased to be asked to participate in the Garden Clubs of Indiana Convention at the Hilton Hotel. At this venue IDS will host the Midwest Regional Daffodil Show on April 12 & 13. On Tuesday, April 13, IDS will move the show to the Holliday Park location. We will be at Holliday Park April 14 & 15. This sounds like a lot of work and it will be but it will be rewarding. We will be spreading the name of IDS to all the convention attendees and that is good!! If you can help with set up, tear down, etc. please let Sara Kinne know. Sara is show chairperson this year. And please, please plan on showing some of your daffodils. You received some wonderful bulbs at the October meeting. Let's show them off at the show.

Waiting for Spring....

Ruth Pelouch, President Indiana Daffodil Society

Dear IDS members,

I have confirmed that the new Home and Garden Show at Lucas Oil Stadium is definitely going to happen. You can get more information about the show at

http://www.indyhomeandflowershow.conn/ME2/Sites/

We have a free booth at this show. Our plan is to have educational displays and pass out information about the Daffodil Show and IDS bulb sales at the booth. I will be able to take care of set up and tear down of the booth, printing of materials to hand out, and scheduling volunteers to come work. I will need to get the displays from Sara or whoever has them right now. Mary Milberger has a table cloth and I have the table and chairs. I will also get a few daffodils for a vase to put on our table.

on Friday 10am - 9pm, Saturday 10am - 9pm and Sunday 11am - 6 pm.

My understanding is that we do not have to man our booth the entire time. I am looking for people to work 3-4 hour shifts on any of those days, especially Fri.Eve., Sat. and Sun. It would be best to have two people at a time so they can trade off. Please let me know if you can come anytime during that weekend. I will make arrangements for you to get an exhibitor's pass and parking. Call or email me with any questions.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Meet President Ruth Pelouch:

Prior to my current position of IDS President/Treasurer, I was Treasurer for two years.

I have always enjoyed the first blooms of daffodils especially when I lived in northern Ohio. The winters there were gray, wet and long and the daffodils heralded the waning of winter and the start of warmer, brighter days.

Years ago Suzy Wert was at an open house at the Link Observatory during the daffodil bloom time. Suzy and I talked about daffodils and she encouraged me to join IDS. I did and here I am six years later.

I am very partial to fragrant daffodils. I, also, enjoy the yellow/salmon coloration as in Mitsch's "Lorikeet".

I am a Master Gardener in Morgan County. I seem to have inherited the gardening gene from my grandmother and mom. Both were great gardeners. I jokingly used to tell my mom that she could make a stick grow. When my mom and grandmother talked about gardening I listened and took their advice when it was offered. Our two daughters enjoy gardening so the gene has been passed on! I use the Purdue binder of gardening topics received at the Master Gardening class as a source of information. It has so many good references. "Daffseek" is my source for daffodil identification.

My favorite garden tool is a True Temper trowel that was given to me by my husband's uncle who owned a greenhouse. Upon his retirement he gave the trowel to me plus some old gardening reference books, I have misplaced the trowel a few times and was in a panic state until it was found. I treasure my trowel not only because it is a great tool but because it was from Uncle Basl.

Other than gardening or just being outdoors doing something, I enjoy reading, exercising, yoga, going for walks with my husband and being with our dog and nine cats. Ruth.
