The Jabberwock President’s Message With the conclusion of another successful MarketPlace Magic, the Board is back to focusing on growing our 3rd annual leadership conference on January 17. A leadership conference serves two purposes for Junior League; if attended and sponsored well, it could be a strong fundraiser for JLB. It also fulfills our mission of growing the leadership and training of women. I hope all of our JLB members can attend and please bring a friend or coworker with you. Please help promote the event at your workplace or with other ladies you think would be interested. Behind the scenes, Community Council is interviewing nonprofit organizations that we partner with to promote our laundry program. The purpose of these surveys is to reassess the need for laundry and to confirm if it is still a largely unmet need in the community. By the end of 2018 these surveys will be completed and results will be reported on to general membership at a GMM. This reassessment stage is part of the strategic planning process for determining the vision of laundry’s future. We cannot decide its future without consulting with the multiple other organizations in Billings that help serve this low income community like Junior League of Billings. I am thankful that there are women invested to continue the mission of Junior League and improving our community. The beauty of living in Billings and being a part of an organization the size of JLB, is that we can touch many and make a huge impact. With hard work and perseverance to the mission, we can achieve great things. Happy Thanksgiving to you and those closest to you! I’m thankful I get to work alongside all of you. COMMUNITY COUNCIL Happy Holiday Season Junior League of Billings! We have had such a successful year thus far with Laundry and the good times just keep coming. This month we spent $450 on our free laundry day with everyone in attendance knowing about the event and coming specifically for the free service. We donated 116 loads of laundry from small to extra large and over 2100 minutes of dryer time. We also were able to provide detergent and dryer sheets to anyone who needed them. Also as an exciting extra addition to the free laundry event we also had the privilege of getting interviewed by Q2 for a spotlight on Junior League’s service project. They were able to interview a few Junior League members along with a willing participant of the event and the BYO Laundromat owner. This is such exciting news and a wonderful way of getting the word out in the community about our service project! We keep adding more and more recipients to our free laundry list so if you know of anymore or any organization that should be getting the flyer please email their contact in-formation to [email protected].

As for what is next for our laundry day service project, as a council we are focusing on finishing up any remaining surveys along with starting to research best possible sustainability options in our community. We have heard and seen that laundry is a desperate need and something that we would like to continue if possible. There are so many organizations in this country that have also found laundry as a desperate need and give us a wonderful example of what our free laundry day can eventually turn into whether is be its own non-profit organization or we bring in another organization to take over our work. We also have another sustainer event coming up on December 4th from 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm at Mission Ridge focused on bringing holiday cheer to those in need. We will be creating homemade holiday cards for Family Service and will also be providing gifts for the Empty Stockings event put together by organizations in the community and the Gazette. We are so excited to partner with our sustaining members once again and have a successful Done-In-A-Day project with them and our active members. As always, let me know if you want to get more involved in the Free Laundry Day Project! We are always looking for fresh new eyes and new suggestions on how to make this wonderful and needed project sustainable! Upcoming Events: Laundry Day December 15th 10am - 2pm Sustainer Event December 4th 4pm - 6:30pm Cheers! Emily Hoskins

AJLI Webinar Wednesday

DECEMBER 12, 2018 RUN AS YOU ARE 2020: LOOKING AHEAD AND LESSONS LEARNED

WITH VOTERUNLEAD

Featuring: Erin Vilardi, Founder and CEO, VoteRunLead

Interested in running for office or helping others do so, but don’t know where to start? A record number of women will run in this year’s election, we will have the

results by the time we have this webinar. In this webinar, VoteRunLead Founder Erin Vilardi, recently profiled in The Chronicle of Philanthropy, will help us understand and the new political land-scape, and show us how to stay civically engaged, plan a race for office, and help other women run in the next two years. The presentation will help you:

Find the best office to run for

Get connected to other women run-ning in VoteRunLead's community

Learn how to partner with Vote Run Lead in your area

FUND DEVELOPMENT I want to start by saying THANK YOU Junior League of Billings!! MarketPlace Magic 2018 was a success and without

your efforts, this would have not been possible. We had great volunteers who

brought items for our bingo baskets, luncheon baskets, and wine. We had

amazing volunteers who gave their time working at the front selling tickets,

JLB booth, vendor relief and decorating at the Mart. Members sold raffle tick-

ets raising $2,000. As usual, our Sustainers took time to plan a fabulous

luncheon and baskets for the raffle. Everyone’s hard work paid off! We were

able to raise just over $32,000. This will allow the JLB to continue their

mission of developing the potential of women and improving the community.

I continue to be blessed to be part of an organization of strong women who

get things done and are committed to improving Billings.

Have a great Thanksgiving!
