Shaping a New NationLocation: Powers Room

Examine the country’s founding documents with President John Adams and First Lady Abigail Adams. Try signing your initials with a quill pen and participate in hands-on activities!

Make your own Stovepipe hat to match President Lincoln’s or a Tricorner hat to match the popular colonial style worn by Presidents Adams and Jefferson. Wear your hat to meet the Presidents!

A Place to Call HomeLocation: Powers Room

Build your own log cabin and learn of President Lincoln’s humble beginnings or try out line sculpture to explore Jefferson’s architectural designs for Monticello.

White House Room Design and Collage 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Explore the wonders of collage by creating your own White House room design inspired by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy’s restoration of the White House in the 1960s.

Maritime Fun1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Explore President Kennedy’s passion for the sea by creating your own initials in nautical code or by making a sailboat using the art of origami!

Astronaut Helmets 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Make your own space helmet and learn about how Astronauts stay safe in space.

Scrimshaw 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Explore President Kennedy’s appreciation of scrimshaw and design your own work of art.

Presidential Jeopardy 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Do you enjoy presidential trivia? Test your knowledge about President Kennedy and other US presidents, and play Presidential Jeopardy! Winners will be awarded prizes. Adults are invited to join in an “advanced round” of presidential trivia.

Popsicle Stick Flags 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Make your own flag with popsicle sticks and learn more about the American flag.

White House China

10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

If you were president, what would your dinner plates look like? Design your own presidential china and bring it with you to a State Dinner!

President Grant and Cincinnati 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

President Grant was a master horseman and Cincinnati, his most famous animal companion, was a prized gift. Make an origami horse inspired by Cincinnati and the Union battle victories during the Civil War.

Kennedy Campaign Hats 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Make your own iconic hat to match the 1960 campaign hats worn by many Kennedy supporters. Wear your Kennedy campaign hat during the Festival!

Write a Letter to the President 11:00 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.

Share your ideas, thoughts, and concerns with the 45th president of the United States. Write a letter to President Trump voicing your opinion and mail it with the commemorative President Kennedy stamp.

You’re Invited to a State Dinner! 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Bring your personally designed White House China to the Learning Center. Explore the menu, entertainment, and toasts that made the Kennedy state dinners unique. First-come, first-served seating.

The Harvard Din and TonicsPop-up Performances Location: #7 and #12

Travel back in time over fifty years with pop-up performances of President Kennedy’s campaign songs presented by Harvard’s world- traveled a capella group. Join us for a closing concert of popular music from the 1960s and today.

Family Tour of the Museum GalleriesLocation: Presidential Seal in Lobby

Explore the early 1960s in this 45-minute

interactive tour of the Museum. View Alan Shepard’s space capsule, see international treasures given to the president, and learn about the major events during President Kennedy’s time in office.

Stranded at Sea: JFK and the PT 109Location: Young Jack Exhibit (#1 on map)

12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Hear the story of how John F. Kennedy and his PT 109 crew struggled

to survive for six days following a collision with a Japanese destroyer. Learn how JFK became a World War II hero in this 25-minute hands-on interactive program.

Race for Space Discovery CartLocation: Space Exhibit (#9 on map)

11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Come explore the first manned American space craft in this

15-minute hands-on program for all ages. Follow Mercury Astronaut Alan Shepard from takeoff to splashdown and perform important space duties!

Jacqueline Kennedy: Hands-on Discovery CartLocation: First Lady Exhibit (#16 on map)

1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy restored the

White House to reflect the rich history of the first families who lived there. Come learn about some of her unusual finds and go beyond her image as a fashion icon in a hands-on exploration of her many roles as first lady.
