January 2017

I sincerely hope everyone had and has a very Happy and prosperous New Year. Not much new news to pass on. I hope everyone was able to stay warm during our last cool spell. I know, it was frigid, right? For some folks, it was.

It is very important for everyone to remember, this is an election year. Folks need to step forward and serve the chapter. Please inform me if you desire to run for office Don’t be shy. Always good news, we have two new members to report. Welcome to Chapter XXI, SFA.

Joseph M. Jelinek M-1440325188 Marion Ave #1022Punta Gorda, FL 33950

Edward V. Chandler M-5494-A1466 Goldrush AveMelborne, FL 32940

Along with the good, the bad. I have had the last two newsletters to Anna Drinkwater returned asundeliverable. I have no knowledge as to why and hope nothing has happen to her.

Our own John Erskine was honored to receive the War Service Medal, presented by the local Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution at the December meeting. See pictures below.

Info for the March meeting is included in this newsletter. Please make your reservations and send your monies to Russ Cummings by the cut-off date of March 3, 2017.

David Bussone, President of The Villages Chapter of The Sons of the American Revolution, presents the War Service Medal to Retired Colonel John F Erskine, for his combat service in Vietnam. COL Erskine served with both the 1st and 5th Special Forces Groups in Vietnam in 1964 and 1966. He is a Charter Member of The Villages Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and a member of SFA Chapter XXI.

DONATIONS TO CHAPTER

Betty Bass $100.00 (IMO "Sam" Bass)

HEALTH & WELFARE

1. Betty Bass - I spoke with Betty, she is doing absolutely great, enjoying good health and walking (with walker) every chance she gets. She sends her Heartfelt Best Wishes to all for a Blessed, Happy New Year.

2. Al & Toni Boman - Al reports that Toni is now in a different rehab. facility in the Villages. She is receiving physical therapy 5 days a week and she is now responding very well. Al said he is holding up pretty good but it has been tough at times since Toni had the stroke in March 2016. They both send their Best Regards to all and hope to see us at a meeting soon. Hang in there, both of you, we are all 'pulling' for you. Toni would appreciate hearing from friends. Her address:

Mrs. Toni Boman, 16529 S.E. 86th Bell Meade Circle, The Villages, FL 32162, Phone # 1-352-385-8945.

3. Caesar Civitella - Caesar reports he just returned from a week long trip to his old home area in Pennsylvania, his first visit back there in approx. 30 years. Said he had a great time meeting and visiting with relatives. He sends a Very Happy, Healthy New Year to all.

4. Paul A. Darcy - "Pablo" sent a note along with his dues. He wrote the family are all doing well. They just had their second Christmas in their rebuilt home (disastrous fire in Feb. 2014). They are happy with the rebuild but still have some trouble locating light switches (some redesign of interior and code updates). Pablo and Monica send Best Wishes to All.

5. Sharon Hoagland - Sharon reports that she and Dan are both doing well. Sharon has cataract surgery coming up and is looking forward to getting it done. They both send a Happy New Year to All.

6. Dave Soucie (Our beloved Quartermaster) - Sue reports that Dave developed a very serious infection just after the last surgery on his left ear. The VA doctors checked him out, changed an antibiotic he was on and the infection has cleared and he is now doing very good. During this period, VA decided to repair Dave's leg brace. It could not be repaired and a new one has to be made. Dave does not have a back up brace so the VA put him in a cast (until the new brace arrives). Being in the cast sharply cuts his mobility and Sue says he is not very happy with this situation. They both (and Barbara) send their greetings and are looking forward to seeing us all at the March meeting.
