We welcome you and your child to the exciting adventure of discovery and learning!

Tanglewood Learning Center provides the opportunity for parents to choose a Preschool or a Montessori School.

Montessori is an educational experience and not a daycare service. As a private school, we offer a year-round educational program designed to promote the physical, social, cognitive and emotional development of children. Our philosophy is based on love and respect for each child as a special and unique individual.

Tanglewood Montessori School is designed to fill the individual needs of children ages 18 months through kindergarten. The school is modeled after what Dr. Maria Montessori called "the prepared environment", an environment which possesses order and logic. These first years of school encourage a child's natural enthusiasm and love of learning. "Learning by doing", as called by Dr. Montessori, encourages practical applications and use of materials designed for that purpose. Children develop at their own pace and according to their own capabilities.

This educational program fully incorporates the Montessori philosophy. Montessori methods and materials are used in all classrooms. We achieve our educational and social goals through one-on-one instruction, small group lessons and a variety of activities based on Montessori principles. Children are guided toward a state of self-direction.

Tanglewood Learning Center provides before and after school care for our students as well as an after school program for students from area schools. Our after school program offers parents a safe and happy environment for their children. We also offer a theme based, well planned, full day Summer Program.

Purpose:

the child develop within him/herself a foundation of habits, attitudes, skills and ideas which are essential for a lifetime of creative thinking and learning.

others and the environment.

Philosophy and Goals:Dr. Maria Montessori observed and studied the nature of the learning process in children. She believed that every child delights in spontaneous activity directed toward intellectual discovery. The carefully prepared environment of a Montessori classroom nourishes a child's natural development. Attitudes and confidence developed during the formative years will serve children throughout their lives. For a confident child, new activities are not only a challenge but also a delight. Children are most apt to retain a positive attitude toward learning and acquire confidence in a relaxed atmosphere where they set their own pace, follow their own interests and are free of criticism and competition.

The following are some basic Montessori concepts:

of liberty (not license) which forms the basis of real self-discipline. This is a higher discipline which originates within children as they practice making their own decisions and exercising their own will. It is not a discipline imposed on the child by a teacher or based on rewards or punishments.

hood  friends  most  likely  won’t  be  my  lifelong

related  by  blood.  I  learned  to  surround  myself  with  people  who  lift  me  up.

I  learned  that  beauty  isn’t  the  same  for  everyone.  I  learned  to  accept  myself  no  matter  what  the  number  on  the  scale  is.  I  learned  that  a  nice  personality  goes  a   lot   further   than  a

thing  that  sits  on  your  head  and  protects  you  from  sunburns.  I  also  learned  that  hair  grows  back.  I  learned  that  the  number  of  compliments  I  get  from  people  don’t  mean  a  thing  if  I  can’t  accept  myself.

I  learned  that  I’m  worth  waiting  for.  I  learned  that  being  single  doesn’t  mean  that  I’m  missing  out.  I  learned  that  you  can’t  expect  people  to  change  for  you  if  you’re  not  willing  to  change  for  them.  I  learned  that  the  guys  that  make  you  doubt  yourself  are  not   the  guys  worth  chasing.  I  learned  to  get  over  the  guys  that  got  over  me.  I  learned  to  not  beat  myself  up  over   things   that  didn’t  work  out.  I   learned

that  my  brain  has.  I   learned  that  a  broken

I  learned  that  the  plan  I  have  for  myself  isn’t  always  the  plan  that  God  has  for  me.  I  learned  to  stop  being  angry  with  God  for  not  working  according  to  my  schedule.  I  learned  to  be  a

extremely  important.  I  learned  to  listen.

I  learned  to  take  things  one  day  at  a  time.  I  learned  that  it’s  ok  to  lie  in  bed  all  day  and  eat  ice  cream  every  once  in  a  while.  I  learned  to  take  breaks.  I  learned  that  pushing  myself  when  I’m  not  ready   is  probably   the  worst  thing  I  can  possibly  do.

I   learned  to  not  overlook  things   that  don’t  feel  right.  I  learned  to  follow  my  gut.  I  learned  to  take  chances.  I  learned  that  giving  someone  more  chances  isn’t  always  the  best  decision.  I  learned  to  forgive.  I  learned  that  forgetting  is  way  harder  than  forgiving.  I  learned  that

on  it  is  hurtful.  I  learned  not  to  hate.  I  learned  that  doing  something  in  spite  of  someone  or  something  is  never  a  good  idea.

lutely  adore  it.  I  learned  that  study  breaks  are  absolutely  necessary   for  my   sanity.   I  learned  that   laughing  is  also  necessary  for  my   sanity.   I   learned   that   studying   with  friends  is  never  a  good  idea.  I  learned  that  test  weeks  make  me  homesick.  I  learned  that  Lufkin   is  nice   to  come  home   to  and  will  always  be  home.

I  learned  who  I  am.  I  learned  who  I  want  to  be.  I  learned  where  I  want  to  be.  I  learned  what  it’s  like  to  know  you  have  a  purpose.  I  learned  what  it’s  like  to  be  truly  happy.

So  here’s  to  more  experiences  that  teach  me  great  lessons.  Here’s  to  adventures.  Here’s  to  life.

Melissa Radke is married to the best looking man in town, whom she a!ectionately refers to as The Attorney General. They have two children, Remi and Rocco; you have probably seen their picture in the Most Wanted list at your local schools. She loves movie popcorn, telling her friends what to do with their hair and being the center of attention. You can find her anytime at melissa@lu"in.org or Chik-fil-A. You are encouraged to ask for her autograph. In fact, she insists.
