Miscommunication. It's a simple enough word - but you never know just how complicated things can get because of it. I never thought that a simple lack of talking would ever lead to such huge breakdowns of relationships. Whether it is with a friend, a best friend, a family member or that person you've had a crush on for ages, talking is so very important in keeping your connection strong. Sometimes you can be under the impression that a friend is purposely hurting you. That they've broken lines of communication out of spite because "you've done something wrong". Sometimes it'll make you so angry that you feel like you wouldn't forgive them even if they said sorry. Then you hear something from a third party and you wonder why you'd ever doubted them. When this happened to me, I blamed myself for the very issue I'm talking about - miscommunication.

I'd failed to ask what the problem was - this is always a fatal mistake. It's so very important to continue communicating with your friends about issues concerning them. Of course, it can be difficult for guys to express their feelings because it isn't "manly" but, honestly, true friends won't blame someone for simply wanting to remain friends. It will never be your fault for wanting to strengthen a relationship by being honest - that only shows maturity. So, next time you find yourself in a situation with something on your mind that you feel is too risky to tell your friend, come right out and say it. You'll both be better off that way and chances are your relationship will become stronger. But, whatever you do never ever break down those vital lines of communication - because if you ever find yourself in a situation where your earthly possessions are taken away, friends and family will be all you have.
