Baby King Cobras

King Cobras are good mothers untill the babies hatch. The mother king cobra knows that she needs to leave her nest before her babies start hatching. Otherwise, she might eat

her own babies. She leaves her nest only a few days before the eggs hatch, which takes two to three months.

Habitats

India east to China and south to the Philippines, the king cobra is not a common species probably because it is the top meat eater in the food chain.

behavior/defences

King cobras, like other snakes, smell by their forked tongues.like other snakes they have flexible jaws. The

expansion of the jaw enables the snake to swallow prey much larger than its head.

risks

Since the rainforest is being cut down, the King Cobra is put at risk. Wildlife

sanctuaries could be created to created to help the habitat. The King

Cobra is endangered due to loss habitat, killed for food, and medicinal purposes. There could, conceivably,

come a time in the near future when it will be necessary for governments in Asia, Africa, and other areas where

cobras are found, to enact legislation to protect these creatures from

extinction.
